Keeping up the youth movement.

Description
Sparks deserves a chance so McElhinney needs to go even though he's been a sturdy backup.

Getting rid of Martin's contract is a must.

Picking up a top pairing (or potentially) right handed defenseman is the leafs top priority.

Young players like kappanen, Johnson, and even leivo and Gauthier are gunna get more ice time and a chance to prove themselves.

Picked up a depth forward and a depth D-man. I picked players who I thought would accept a 1 year deal but there are a lot of other options on the market to choose from. Nylander contract is compatible to Nic Ehlers or Mark Sheiffle on WPG figured that would be a good estimate.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Spezza, Jason
Additional Details:
At this point I need his salary to stay above the cap floor.
Dallas would love to get rid of Spezza so he would be cheap. He can fill the 3C spot this year and since he only has 1 yr left on his deal it won't affect Matthews and Marners deals next year
DAL
  1. Martin, Matt
  2. McElhinney, Curtis
  3. 2019 3rd round pick (TOR)
2.
TOR
  1. Pesce, Brett
Additional Details:
Realistically Brett Pesce might be the best fit beside Reilly with a modest cap hit he won't take up too much cap space when Matthews and Marners deals kick in.
CAR
  1. Brown, Connor
  2. Gardiner, Jake ($1,550,000 retained)
  3. 2019 6th round pick (TOR)
  4. 2020 3rd round pick (TOR)

I seriously doubt that Spezza is a fit in Toronto. Spezza has not aged gracefully. To get rid of Martin 2.5 million cap hit? Cody Franson, that ship has sailed.

I like the idea of getting Spezza for a year, not bad at all. Pesce would be a great pickup, but I think if canes trade him it will be for more of an impact forward than Brown. they are loaded on D and don't need giveaway gards. Nice ideas.

The coaching change in Dallas might keep Spezza where he is. That being said, he'd probably fit in well with Babcock and his production may surprise most given an opportunity with some scoring wingers.

Yeah maybe I value Brown a lil more than the canes would.. but it is a good base for a trade.. maybe upgrade to a 2nd rnd pick and throw in the rights to RFA Calvin Pickard...
