Also to address the dman and backup goalie situation. Del Zotto (50% Retained) and Nilsson (50% Retained) to Chi for TOR's 2018 3rd Rd Pick.

ya.... no thanks. id much rather keep seabrook than take on a player who is even more of a wasted roster spot let alone giving up a 1st too.

Really? Even though its a bigger cap hit for 2 more years than the Eriksson deal? Interesting.
I wouldn't want to take on the Seabrook contract anyways, just throwing it out there.

the cap difference is only 875k. id much much rather retain 2 or 3m of seabrooks contract than to take on a contract like that.

The problem with the Seabrook contract is even if CHI does retain 50% (still too big of a cap hit for him), it runs for another 6 years. No other team would want that. Even in that situation CHI would have to add.

If Saad is't the right fit with Toews, would you trade him for a 31 year old, with four times as many 30 goal seasons, but not as recent, making 1.5M more? Because I heard Ottawa knows a guy...

Superstar Alex Burrows for Toews, Kane, and 2018 1st. We might be willing to throw in Gaborik to sweeten the pot!

Hawks would be better off even retaining half of it. though i think 4m for seabrook is not that bad. The hawks if they were to buyout seabrook would get 3m in cap relief for two years, then the third year they would actually lose cap space, then the next year they would get 3m in relief again, but after that the hawks would be in trouble. so even if the hawks were to retain half that contract, they would be better off in the long run.

I’m not sure I’d do this myself. But, as a base, Sven Baertschi for Connor Murphy

I'd do this trade if the NSH 1st wasn't involved. Maybe a 2nd or 3rd rounder would work. They are both horrendous contracts but Seabrook's worth is closer to his cap hit than Eriksson's. Both contracts are essentially buyout proof but Seabrook's is 2 years longer. At this point I think I'd keep Seabrook for another year and get a decent draft pick with NSH 1st.

If Chi doesn't want MDZ, and Vancouver is willing to retain, what about MDZ at 50% for Orpik and a 4th? Orpik's a better teacher for a rebuilding club to have around, and both of their contracts are up next summer.
