RNH trade value is no where close to third overall. MTL needs actual top 6 centers, RNH is not a top six center

I've always asked what's in the water in Montreal to make y'all so crazy. Turns out that it's meth. Do you guys not know what a top-6 C is because the team hasn't had one since the turn of the decade or...?

Value is bad though so that's fair.

I could see Florida MAYBE taking one of the expensive defenceman as a dump, but not both.

How is a player that got less then 40 points the last two seasons at a center a top 6 center? He plays on Mcdavids wing and Edmonton fans think he is a top line player. Just look at his numbers, as a center he has performed as a third line center, he can play a two way game but that doesn’t mean he can actually handle being a top line center. He has never been able to handle top line duties, stop thinking that he is this elite player and stop thinking he is valuable just because he was a #1 draft pick.

He might not be playing as a top-6 center in Edmonton because of a couple of guys by the name of McDavid and Draisaitl? Maybe you've heard of em. I dunno. It also affects his PP time having those two on the team btw. He gets 2nd unit time, and the last two seasons Edmonton hasn't featured a very good bottom-6 set of forwards. Keep in mind his early years (like literally up until the McDavid draft) he was on a very, very, VERY bad team. It's hard to put up points and really shine on a team that bleeds chances and goals against when the 1st line isn't on the ice.

RNH is consistently on pace for 50-60pts per season, the 16/17 season not considered considering he featured outside of the top-6 until Draisaitl was bumped to McDavid's wing full-time. Other than that, he's constantly tasked with facing off against top opposition on the other team. He was given a shutdown role vs the Getzlaf line during the 16/17 playoffs and did remarkably well despite Edmonton losing the series. Considering how powerful guys like Getzlaf+Kesler are in the dot, RNH having a fo% above 40% in that series is astounding.

If put in the east, where there's still more of a focus on skill+speed than size ala the west (specifically the Pacific), RNH is easily, and I very clearly mean easily, a #2C on most teams in the east. Given just a modest raise in PP time, he's a 60-70point guy per season, similar to Monahan (CGY). Considering Montreal is going into the offseason with a LW as their #1C, if Edmonton trades him to Montreal, they will pay for him as a top-6 C. Is the #3ovr too much? Absolutely, and that's genuinely not what I'm disagreeing with.

On pace to get 50-60 points a season? He got over 50 twice and that was 4 years ago. He is never going to be over a 60 point guy, even with more pp time. At 25 he has basically shown what he is going to be in this league and adding in the pressure he would be under in MTL he would crumble.

I think he would be valuable to MTL if they had some support for him but throwing him in that top six role would be feeding him to the wolf’s when/ if he failed.

It would be a trade id aim for if MTL signed JT, I’d go to Edmonton after that and see what it would cost to bring him in as a 2C. It wouldn’t be the best situation but it would be an improvement.

You seem to be trying to imply that I consider him to be a suitable #1C - he's not. That's a fair assessment. If injuries hit, he's not the worst option to fill the void.

Prorating his G/A/P to 82GP has him at 67/49/56/59/59/43/62 points every season since he's been in the NHL. What I'm saying isn't a stretch: give him the proper icetime and don't stick him with replacement-level NHL players and he will hit the 60 point mark.

I don’t think it’s a stretch but I do think it’s a longer stretch in MTL, it’s just not the market you want to enter with these expectations that a player will get better. MTL is a lot friendlier to players that are established and you know what your getting then the young ones that the city seems to throw their hopes and dreams on. I’m a Habs fan but even i get sick of seeing young players like that get chewed up and spit out in this market, I think Nug would fall into that trap if he came here.
