I think you’ll have to pay more to get Montreal to take Ryan, just because the contract is worth more, but it looks really good. I really like the Calgary Deal.

MTL would do it, but I think they would say keep the pick(3rd) but instead retain some salary.

I was trying to avoid keeping some salary by sending the 3rd round pick as compensation for taking the entire contract.

No way from Montreal. Alzner's contract is bad, but he's still a useful defenseman. And Ryan has the worst contract in the league.

What would it take for you to take Ryan in that deal? What do you think is missing?

Honestly I think Ryan's conract is unmovable, Alzner's slightly less. I doubt he gets moved at all unless it's to Arizona so they can get to the cap floor, or if Karlsson's involved. I especially don't think he'll be traded to a team like Montreal, who seems to be going for a big FA this year.

Pass from the Flames perspective (I hope). Zach Smith is way overpaid and Cody Ceci is brutal. Brouwer and Smith pretty much cancel each other out, so Hamilton + Bennett for Hoffman + Ceci isn't a deal I would do. It's not horrible, but if the Flames move a RD, it's to open a spot for Rasmus Andersson, and bringing Ceci back doesn't help that.

I don't think Hoffman for Hamilton (even taking on Brouwer;s contract) is remotely close. Hoffman is also a LW which Calgary doesn't really need since they have Johnny Hockey and Tkachuk. Getting Hamilton out of Calgary would require a huge over payment, not a close hockey trade. The right province for a trade like this, just the wrong GM Sticking Out Tongue

I'd love to see Hamilton in a sens jersey Wolanin Karlsson Chabot Hamilton top 4 would be great. Would also push PDorion and Co to select someone like Walhstrom to bring some balance up front with Hoffman leaving.

Ryan is a wild card. He's not finished as a player. His contract just weighs heavy on him. Alzner is not bad player, simply wayyy overpaid for what he does give you. On a solid team he can just fade inot the 3rd pairing and do well. Ryan needs to be effective with more minutes to be worth it to his team otherwise he is lost on the bottom 6 lines.

If your feeling risky, Ryan may be a solid pickup.
If you don't want the risk, keep Alzner.
