See but I hear this about Kyrou, Thomas and Klostin. Feels a tad unrealistic to have three untouchable prospects but none cracked the NHL last year. Of the future stars, feels like if the blues want to make a move they'll pick the one they like least and move him. So I guess swap him out for Thomas if that's how you feel.

Looks like a Forsberg-Erat type deal. Renting Staal for 1 playoff run at the cost of a blue-chip prospect and a 1st wouldn't be the best idea for the Blues IMO. Adding a big-name center would be huge, but we'll be looking for someone with term (or that we can get a few more good years out of if we extend them).

I think Cane is coming in a little high on Dumba AAV but we'll see.

Are you saying since we didn't play two 18-year-olds or a 19-year old in the NHL last year that it's time to move on from them? I think our mgmt is playing the next few years pretty conservatively unless a great offer comes along. I think I agree with you that they'll move on from one, but Kyrou and Thomas, the OHL regular season MVP and OHL playoff MVP should be the ones we keep (PLEASE ARMSTRONG don't eff this up).

I mean it has the potential to be a bad trade for the Blues, but I assume we'll see him and the other kids in the lineup this year a bit so we'll know what he looks like against NHLers by then, plus Erat had 4 goals 17 assists the year they traded Forsberg for him, Staal had 40 this year and unless he falls off a cliff he'll have significantly more than Erat did. But I see your point, this move would be going all in.

I agree and hope you're right on dumba, and for zucker I hope they give him more term to cut the AAV

Only suggesting they may move on from one after giving them both long looks in the NHL this year. I wouldn't think its time before then but your window will probably be opening this year and if they don't love what they see from one, they may roll the dice. Could be Klostin for sure though, you're deeper on the wings

Habs would politely decline, but if the Soucy-and-second were replaced by the Wild #1 pick this year (#24), the Habs might have a tough time saying no. There will still be decent D prospects in that mid-20 range, or a few surprises who will have dropped. Unless Julien plans to make Galchenyuk his project next year, the Habs should move on.

Would swapping belpedio for soucy get it done? I think since it looks like we'll hire Fenton, our first round picks won't be going anywhere for a while. Belpedio is a right handed D we're pretty excited about, definitely more top 4 potential than Soucy

How about Greenaway. If you're bringing in Chucky, he becomes less relevant to the plan.

Eh we just gave away the only big power forward we had and Tuch turned out to be a stud in Vegas. Not sure they'd go for it. Sokolov is another interesting name.

Very few players are untouchable. Kyrou isn't one of those players. While he looks he's going to be a top playmaker, we have no clue. Yakupov also looked liked one in juniors but that proved otherwise. Given Kyrou's lack of presence in the OHL playoffs, bot sure how he will do in big games.
The only "untouchable" prospect the Blues have at rhis point is Thomas.

Why would the Canucks give up an early second for a cap dump, a nothing defenseman and a pick?

Because he's not a nothing defenseman he's just stuck behind two guys here so can't play enough but he's a solid asset and still only 23, the left handed D on your team aren't good and aren't young, and Ennis is off your books in a year if you don't like him but hardly played here because bruce didn't like him. Still a skilled player for sure.

Olofsson is a solid player. Smooth skater. Very poised. Good positional defender. Nice size too. His downfall has always been injuries. IF he can stay healthy, he's a player that would be a very dependable 2nd/3rd pairing left-shot d-man on most teams in the NHL.

Except he wasn't even a dependable 3rd pairing guy in MN this year, and the spot was open for the taking. He's worth a 4th-5th round pick at this point (same as Reilly was). The situation was handled awfully between the to of them as part-time 3rd pair, but neither of them really stepped up and took it. Seeler came up from Iowa and was better than either of them. Olofsson is also waiver fodder, so he could be possibly gotten for free.

Nuks trade is robbing them.

Habs trade is meh, not really interested in Chucky. Chucky adds nothing to the team except a $4.9m 3rd liner. He's not a top-6 center (MTL would have played him there if he was), and would be behind Granny, Parise, Zucker, Nino for top-6 wing slots. Coyle at least is a RHS, has the same term, and $1.7m cheaper. Soucy looks like he has some NHL upside. A 2nd would be better off used in the draft.

Staal trade could be doable with teams overpaying at the TDL. But really if MN is out of it then a lot more should be traded away in addition to Staal. And the Chucky trade would have been a complete failure in the first place.

I either want Dumba for longer than 4 yrs at that price, a cheaper AAV for a 4 year contract, or trade him. Zucker is a fair deal.

For a second??? No

My question is: What do you think a 2nd round pick is worth??? Me? If I could get a dependable, proven NHL caliber bottom 6 forward or a 3rd pairing defenseman (as long as the player isn't old) for a 2nd round pick, I'd do it almost every time. Go to hockeydb.com and look at all the drafts...then look at how many 2nd rounders actually have an impact in the NHL. The percentage isn't very high. I'll take the proven commodity over the educated guess (again...almost) every time.

However, in this scenario, it doesn't make sense because Ennis is involved in the trade. You are right about this particularly trade. Pull out Ennis from the deal and it's a pretty fair deal. Olofsson's injury history clouds the analysis quite a bit though.
