Giving 7 million on top of assets for a guy who put up less than 40 points last season probably isn't a good idea.

Bet you'd also think Anders Lee was a better winger, as well. Not saying the trade is any good, but a guy who had 4 60 point seasons and 3 30 goal seassons in a row before this, with fuckin Danault, Deharnais and Plekanec as his top centers. Reason why Montreal wants Tavares so much among other things, is we think Pacioretty will break 40 with a guy like Tav centering him.

And what people don't realize about JT is he likes to be the shooter. Look at what happens when they brought is Ladd and Eberle, shoot first guys. They had no chemistry. JT likes a big body in front of the net and pass first winger on the other side (Moulson and PA, Frans and Okposo). Lee had 40 of the ugliest goals I have ever seen. But that is what suites JTs style.

Using the picks to add to an already top 5 offense would be dumb. Islanders need defense and goalie.

Dude he had 1 bad season in the past 7 years. There are so many players who have had bad years only to have stud years afterwards. Remember Eric Staal's 13 goal year? Remember Giroux's 58 and Kopitar's 52 points last season?

If Pacioretty was all over the place scoring 30,15,22,19,31,12 than ok maybe but the guy has literally scored at a 30 goal pace since his first full season in the NHL. Hell with no injury this year he still could of hit high 20's...........in the worst season of his career.........without a #1 center.......on a team that can't score much.

Pacioretty has earned the right to have a mulligan year. Anyone who watched the Habs this year can see this team was absolutely terrible and hampered with injuries to all their key players. What was he supposed to do? Put up career numbers?

Paying for what a guy has done vs what a guy will do is everything wrong with being a GM. If he is going to be so good why trade him for lotto picks?

Again coming off injury, a down season and the wrong side of 30. Why invest 7 million dollars in a guy when other guys need to paid. We just made this mistake with Ladd. We don’t need to do it again.

Because you always have to pay for what a guy did previously. There is no way of knowing what a guy will do in the future. But if it is a matter of risk management, Pacioretty's track record speaks for itself. For all of one season he has been an elite goal scorer. There's more reason to think he'll continue to score at a high or close to rate for a long while. Staal is 33 and scored 40+....... even if Paciorett slows down at 33, 20-30 goals is still a good pace.

Its all about risk management. Pacioretty may not score another 30 goal season in his career just like Bellows may end up being another Dal Colle....... Nothings for sure but based off what we've seen you can make educated guesses.

Regardless Im not saying the Isles should trade for Pacioretty but 7M is not a big ask for a guy in top 10 in NHL goal scoring the past 7 years and counting. As i said in the previous comment, plenty of guys have had bad years to only break out with big season the year after. All those guys were older than Pacioretty is now by the way.

It's crazy how suddenly Pacioretty is worthless after one bad season while being consistently good his whole career

Posters love beating up on players on any team and players as soon as they hit some adversity. Its unfortunate but we all tend to do it. The mentality on this site is black or white. No grey.

It has become 100% "what have you done for me lately", which sucks because that's not how GM's work. We clamor for realism yet we react and evaluate like people who play NHL 2018.
