A BUF fan proposed this in another thread... just thought I'd put in format to see what it looked like "on paper".

I would do that deal in a heartbeat.

I'm curious if Habs fans would do that deal...

I have to admit, if we can get "the" center we all want on July 1, a 2nd line of O'Reilly between Pacioretty and Gallagher would be really good in defensive/shutdown assignments against other teams best players. We're talking about a nice combination of size, grit, hockey IQ, faceoff ability...

Thats a terrible return for ror. A leafs fan and a sabres fan (shibbal) have already posted a possible money laundering proposal where the leafs enter as a third party to facilitate a ror- carolina trade before july 1. Part of the appeal to carolina would be jumping the line before tavares signs and the market for ror really heats up. My point is- after tavares signs, ror may be the best center "available". If thats montreals offer, throw it on the table and see if it beats several other teams offers. My guess is it does not, and its underwhelming enough that botterill probably just keeps him anyways.

Five stars for wanting O'Reilly
Let's take a moment to break down this trade

2019 4th round pick (SJS) =< 2018 4th round pick (EDM)
Nicholas Baptiste (RFA) + Justin Bailey (RFA) >> 2018 3rd round pick (MTL) Baptiste and Bailey are lightening fast and are very close to being NHL players, very few 3rd round picks get to play any NHL games
Let's compare what DATM gave up for O'Reilly,
Compher = R Shaw, A.
Grigorenko << Hudon, C. (Grigorenko's last season in the NHL was not much different then Hudon's last but I going to give Hudon the double <wink
Zadorov > Lindgren, C. (Lindgren is a very promising prospect but Zadorov is an established top 4 defensemen who may get better it could be >> easily)
31st over all >>>> nothing.
I hope this helps everyone understand why this is a very bad trade for Buffalo.
