C’mon Leafs Let’s Bite the Bullett and Help Each Other Out

Created by: BlastyRocks
Team: 2018-19 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: May 28, 2018
Published: May 28, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Both team’s fan bases feel that each player is worth more which is typically a sign of a balanced hockey trade.

This move gives TO their much desired RHD and Nylander gives Calgary the scoring right winger that now allows the team to properly slot their players.

No over priced free agents to regret later - Bernier is signed for a good 1 B option to take some load off Smith.

With DH gone Fox will now see a future and will eventually sign just like Gaudreau and Jankowski did.

It works for both teams thats the best part.. leafs will have to give up one of the 3 eventually, get the perfect price back.. Makes sense to me

I think Hamilton has more value. He’s a top pairing right handed D. I think leafs would have to add

I still say it really doesn't work for the Leafs now. Leafs only have two NHL centres, Matthews, and Kadri. So right now Nylander might and I'll say even probably will be moving to centre this October. So unless the centre position of filled by the Leafs, I can't see the trade happening. Hamilton, I'm guessing that his point total is helped by the good stats on the PP. Leafs had the second best PP last year so Hamilton's need on the PP isn't that great.
So the trade for Hamilton is at best a lateral trade for the Leafs.

And I never understand the logic that some have mentioned include jtpunk77. " leafs will have to give up one of the 3 eventually " Really? Why? Other teams are able to sign their star players once they reach their RFA contracts. To say that the Leafs are unique and can't sign Matthews, Marner and Nylander, just isn't factual.

Nylander has shown he can play C. doubt the leafs add much else aside from a meh dman/prospect like carrick/nielsen/rosen etc

I tend to agree . Problem on Calgary's side is that they are creating a hole to patch another. None of the rookie D are ready to replace Dougie.

To start...I'm not a big Douggie Hamilton fan...that being said...I can see something like this making sense. As others noted above me, if Nylander is part of the Leafs' plans up the middle, then the deal likely needs to be a bigger package with a 3C caliber player coming back as well.

While (I think) I prefer Nylander to Hamilton, one thing that can't be overlooked is cost certainty. I just posted something similar on a St. Louis post regarding Parayko. Everyone is predicting that Nylander will re-up somewhere north of $6m. Knowing you can fill a big hole on RHD for less than that makes it an intriguing scenario. If Nylander will sign for $6m on at least 5 years, then the $250k is negligible. But if the gap is bigger it makes the swap more attractive

I've said on here before that I think trading a D to Toronto fr one of their forwards would be:

    Hamiton + for Marner
    Hamilton for Nylander +
    Brodie ++ for Nylander
    Brodie + for Kapanen
