You expect GMBots to send you a 7th Round draft pick for a player that will probably never play again and be on the hook to potentially pay him $5.275 million a year for the next 3 years.

It's actually $1 million in salary. $5.275 is just the cap hit, which is helpful for teams needing to hit the floor.

It could be $3 and it would still be a foolish move by GMBots..... maybe I am just brain dead but why would the Sabres do this....what is in it for them?

OK, so let's say Botterill decides to take on Hossa as LTIR and Pegula agrees to pay the $3,000,000, you have to ask why should Botterill be giving up assets and cash for nothing.
We will take on Hossa, but Bowman could send Botterill Duclair or equal then Buffalo could send 2019 3rd to Chicago, and I think it is a deal. but you cannot expect any one to make a deal as this to give up a pick and a salary.
