Responding to trade rumors Saad/Faulk

Created by: HawksFan28

Description
I'm just responding to rumors that the Hawks are interested in Faulk and Carolina wants Saad in a deal..... If I were Bowman a deal for Saad would have to look like the one I made... Saad for Faulk straight up - there is no way that's going to happen.... If Carolina wants a 1 for 1 deal then Anisimov is the guy - not Saad.

I threw Hossa in the deal to offset the cap space going out from Carolina, they're obviously going to be around the cap floor so they could use Hossa's contract (not that the Hawks have to trade Hossa to begin with)...

I suppose this is a legit rumor so:

https://www.secondcityhockey.com/2018/6/12/17453448/carolina-hurricanes-chicago-blackhawks-justin-faulk-brandon-saad-nhl-trade-rumors-2018

https://mynhltraderumors.com/nhl-rumors-blackhawks-justin-faulk-brandon-saad-hurricanes-boston-bruins/2018/06/13/

So yea, this would be my proposal for that..

And I know Montreal need legitimate natural centers so why not something around Anisimov & Chucky involving picks?

IDK, the team I made looks pretty interesting... Lots of changes but the defense looks a lot better from last season..... If that offense can get some chemistry it could be pretty lethal..

I signed Hartnell for sandpaper - not to play a major role.

I signed Vermette for his defensive game and his ability to win draws.

I signed Wingels because he's more sandpaper.

I signed Kovalchuk because the Hawks will need a legit top 6 LW on a short-term deal if Saad is traded and there are only a few guys that will take a short-term deal and one of them is Kovalchuk.... I also think Kovalchuk could potentially be lethal playing with Toews or Kane.

I signed John Moore because the Hawks need a responsible veteran #4-5 defenseman and Moore meets that criteria..

Alright go ahead and flame away.

That Montreal trade doesn't work. Galchenyuk is the far superior player and you want two quality picks in return?? You'd have to remove both the 2nd's coming your way and add something else going to Montreal

This is interesting. First off I don't think Kovalchuk comes to Chicago, if we need a top 6 winger I think our best shot would be JVR. In this scenario you need to move Murphy and probably not sign Hartnell. Sikura and Hinostroza should be in the top 9 as well. I don't think that's enough to get Carolina's 1st rounder. You would need to include more picks or a guy like Duclair most likely.

Yea, I don't know just how much "superior" Galchenyuk is to Anisimov - if he is it's not by much..

Montreal gets the 27th overall pick to boot for #56 & #61.... Looks like a fair deal to me

I think it's much closer if it's just the WSH 2nd round pick. Galchenyuk is younger but his value is definitely not as high as it once was. If Montreal could turn a late second round pick into a late first and get a very capable center then I think they'd do it.

It would be nice to avoid long-term contracts because they tend to get the Hawks in trouble..... Besides Panarin is a UFA next summer and it would be nice to re-sign him (which I think was Bowman's plan all along) but that is a different debate all together...

Sure, I would throw Duclair into the Carolina deal........ But I wouldn't trade Saad for Faulk without without trading #8 for #2, I would would toss in someone like Duclair but that's it.

Age, ability, contract. Galchenyuk is better in all of those categories and he only makes 400k more than Anisimov

You have to give to get. Faulk is a top pairing D man and 26. Saad is a top 6 F and 25. You can’t get away from that. Carolina shouldn’t be short changed. Many teams are interested in a RD like Faulk. Duclair is on the block he’s probably gone. I doubt Edjsell makes the team especially as a C. If you get Faulk Murphy has to go.

I think the trade is fair..... Especially when the Canadians get pick #27 for #56 & #61..... Perhaps the Hawks throw in a 3rd or 4th or a long-shot prospect but that's about it.

Yea, that's why you get the 27th overall pick in a deep draft for (2) late 2nd round picks.

Saad is way more valuable to the Hawks than Faulk will be. Besides, Faulk is not a #1-2 he's at top 4 - more like a #3..... The Hawks can just sign a defenseman - there are plenty on the UFA market and keep Saad.

I would give up #27 + for Faulk tho. But if Carolina wants Saad - then no way unless they're swapping picks or adding to the deal.

anisimov 30, galchenyuk is 24. and also i think faulk is worth saad straight up. Faulk had the same amount of points as saad, and this was an off year for both of them. Carolina and Chicago both had a bad year all together, but this could be a good shake up for both teams as chicago needs defense, and carolina needs offense

In isolation looking at each piece as such.

For the Carolina trade, if you dial back the retained money on Darling to $1.5M and include Duclair and a 4th or 5th rounder it works.

For the MTL trade, remove one of the 2nd round picks and it's fair.

Have to move Rutta or Murphy and seeing that Jokiharju is either partially ready or 1 year away, I'd move Murphy and Hillman to NYI for a 2nd round pick back and keep Rutta for 1 more year.

As much as I'd like to see Kane with him, Ilya isn't coming to Chicago...can bet on that, but signing JVR would be good.

Sign Riley Nash as a 3C. Hartnell and Vermette not necessary.

Lines are a bit of a mess up front. I would do...

JVR - Toews - Svech
Car - Schmaltz - Kane
Chucky - Nash - Sikura
Edjsell - Kampf - Hino

Overall good ideas. I'm going to steal this and do something similar, please see what you think.

Faulk is a top pairing defenseman. And will be the hawks 2nd best defenseman if he is traded here. Saad is not more valuable to the hawks than Faulk at that point. The hawks defense was horrible this past season with a struggling PP. Faulk can improve the hawks in both facets. It's a no brainer if I'm Bowman. Plus the hawks save a little over one million in cap space to use on Moore, JVR, or whoever else they may be interested in.

No, the differnce maker between those 2 for Canes is Skinner is on his last year and unlikely to re-sign while Saad has 3 years left so from a contract standpoint he is.

All things being equal a defenseman carries more value than a forward. Neither Saad nor Faulk are star players, very good solid players just below star level. In terms of value they are fairly equal. Defenseman of that level are harder to come by than forwards are. So from a trade value standpoint Faulk has a little more value. But a Faulk for Saad straight up is certainly a fair deal if it benefits both teams.

It’s fan nature to have an emotional attachment to a player that is already on your team and done good things for them. They perceive them to be more valuable than they actually are because of it,

LOL, that's pretty subjective but I would bet both my balls that the majority of GM's would disagree with you.

I wouldn't trade Saad straight up for Faulk, and if that was the ask for Faulk from Carolina I would hang up the damn phone.

I'm not opposed to JVR, but at the same time I don't want to see Bowman hand out a 6x7 contract - especially when Panarin is a UFA next summer (and I strongly believe Bowman will pursue him and that was Bowmans intent all along)....... Which is why Kovalchuk would be perfect because he's only going to get short term offers considering he will be a 35+ contract...

Nash is interesting , but does he have the legs to keep up? and what would he sign for? 3M maybe 3.5? I would have interest on a 1 or 2 year deal.

This isn't bad tho:

JVR - Toews - Svech
Car - Schmaltz - Kane
Chucky - Nash - Sikura
Edjsell - Kampf - Hino

Faulk is a #3-4 defenseman - NOT a #1-2, and the fact he will play with Keith on the top pairing doesn't mean he's a legitimate top pairing defenseman..

If I was Bowman, I would not trade Saad straight up for Faulk and I would be making the right decision....

Saad is the only legitimate LW the Blackhawks have, and I'll be damned to see Panarin turn into Saad turned into Faulk - screw that nonsense.... And on top of that the Hawks are taking Darling off of Carolina's hands and the Blackhawks are without question the only team that would consider taking Darling...... So Carolina can have fun knowing that their #1 is Darling going into next season, that or Darling will be their 4.1M dollar backup goalie....

Taking Darling back in the deal should SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the price of Faulk considering Darling is a cap dump...

Heck, I would give 27th overall for Faulk and Darling...

Bingo. I don't think Faulk is worth more then the #27 pick personally, maybe that and Duclair but Saad is worth more then that on a longer contract. They say Skinner (1 year rental) is worth a late 1st rounder and prospect, Saad then is worth slightly more since they have identical stats and same money basically but Saad has 3 years remaining and is younger.

Indeed, there is no way Saad gets moved for Faulk alone... The Hawks don't have any legitimate LW's after Saad besides DeBrincat...

I'd do Hossa, Duclair & 27th overall for Faulk & Darling (1,100,000 retained)..

I threw Hossa in the deal so Carolina gets cap space (which is doing them a solid) because they will be around the cap floor... Not only that but the trade cap-wise offsets itself....
