WPG NYR TOR

Created by: TotheNorth
Team: 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2018
Published: Jun. 15, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
NYR goes all out rebuild. Hayes has 1 year left until UFA and has arbitration rights. NYR gets a 4th 1st round pick, goalie prospect and middle 6 forward for his rights. Winnipeg negotiates a 3 year deal at 3.5 which takes Hayes until he's 31 and can still sign a long term deal after that. He also bets on himself as he will get to play with Laine and Ehlers and his point totals could/should sky rocket making his next pay day very large. Rangers can select almost an entire line in the 1st round of this years draft and speed the building process up even further.

Trading Myers makes sense, but I doubt Toronto will give a first rounder. Maybe a second and third. Also Laine and Connor are due in 2019, so Trouba is probably gone also.
I agree on the fact that Rangers should fully rebuild. Kind of enjoying it as a Caps fan.

Id say B. Little goes before Trouba. Heck, even Kulikov. Or even Mason, the backup goalie making 4mil...

Mason is due in 2019 as well, so he'll just walk. Trouba is a whiny guy and Morrissey was way better last season. Trust me Trouba will be traded. Might go as early as July. Kulikov might get bought out next summer.

Strange how a rental like Myers gets so much return but a RFA like Hayes gets about the same.

This is the same.thing as Drouin was with TBL. Trouba wanted a trade a year ago. This time he'll get it and WPG won't even miss him.

The Jets will have cap issues and need to clear space for a lot of big money guys coming in. They have a couple bad contracts and will have to make a trade. Myers will definitely garner a late first. Supply and demand makes Myers a trade pretty profitable for the Jets. He's the easiest guy to trade and get a decent return. Trading Trouba would bring a bigger return, but he is also a lot harder to replace than Myers. They'd have Buff and Trouba on the right side so they can afford to have a little less talent on the 3rd pairing.

Strange that they're actually both technically rentals....Hayes needs to sign a contract but if he goes to Arbitration and gets a 1 year deal he's UFA after next season...Myers has a deal for next year already and is UFA at the end of it. So they're actually VERY comparable except that Myers actually has a year on his deal signed at the moment.

Difference is Drouin never actually got what he wanted (top line) where as Trouba did. Trouba isn't going anywhere TRUST ME!

Yes he did. He played with Stamkos. Got over 20 goals that season. Trouba's gone, cause they simply don't have the space. Morrissey is not whiny like Trouba and Laine for sure isn't going anywhere. Acquiring someone like Hayes is completely unnecessary.

Fair to the Drouin statement (I'm assuming because I admittedly don't follow Tampa that closely and thought that was the year Stamkos was injurred). On the Trouba aspect I completely disagree. Trouba isn't gone because "they simply don't have the space". He's the reason you make space. You don't just trade 23 year old top pairing RHD away because you don't have the space. You move the Myers, Kulikov, Perrault, Mason, Buff, basically anyone but him! He's also no Whiny as you state. There was a lot of initial anger from WPG fans when he requested his trade but when you sit down and rationalize what happened it starts to make sense. Kids got the talent, was anchored next to Stuart behind Buff and then they went out and traded for Myers who he also ended up behind. His potential earning power being hindered by being behind those two guys, and anchored next to Stuart were going to cost him millions of dollars and he wasn't happy about that despite being better than Myers, and on a path to being a #1 guy. So he used what little leverage he had to make a point/statement. Now he's got what he wants, he's playing with an excellent D partner for a contending team with a bunch of guys his age who all seem to get along well. THE ONLY REASON Trouba would want out is if you believe the family life "rumors" that have circulated the past few years.
