As a Sabres fan, I like the trade for us...although I'd hate to see O'Reilly traded, we need a LW and a RHD.

But the Montreal trade? There's no chance they would do that.

Giving up the #3 pick for that? I guess it depends what they want. You'd be losing out on an elite forward, for a decent one and two good young defensemen.

Fleury, Bean, Juulsen, Mete could make quite a solid top-4 in a few years though...but Zadina is going to be special, in my opinion.

I'd definitely not do that and run. Giving up an elite goaltender prospect and a 1st rounder for a 2nd.. No thanks MTL DECLINES

they will be passing on Zadina... My take is they pick Kotkaniemi at 3, or maybe Quinn Hughes...

He is not elite. He can't stop pucks in the ahl. Elite prospects dont sign multi year deals at 700k aav

Montreal doesn’t do this deal. Lindholm has played right wing and hasn’t proven to be a center yet, Bean Fleury look like good prospects but still sure things and the second is a move touch.

All in all though third overall is probably worth all that by its self, not with a decent goalie prospect and two nhl roster players.

Five stars for trading away O'Reilly
Let me try to compare the assets:

Skinner, J. or Faulk, J. >=< O'Reilly, R
Rask, V. < 2018 2nd round pick (BUF)
Darling, S. < Robin Lehner

Does any one else have a breakdown. IMO this trade greatly favors the Sabres, and Botterill would accept it immediately.
Let's make a deal!!! cheers

Your right, but just because we have depth doesn't mean we need to dump him and our 1st rounder. I'm all about trading positions where we have depth if we can get a good decent return for it. which is not the case in that deal

The only reason this kid ain't the number 1 goaltender for MTL, is because of Carey Price. Every one knows, unfortunately if you're a great ascending goaley that gets drafted in Montreal, you will be in Price's shadow until he leaves.

He had a good 10 game run and then played like a high school goalie in the AHL. Hes not elite

I just dont want to trade for Skinner and Faulk. One has 1 year left and the other has 2.... almost definite chance that Buffalo either overpays to keep them or loses them for nothing... Rask is meh. You'd be better off trading Faulk to a real contender for a 1st round pick and then moving that pick to Buffalo.

Not true lindholm played center for a majority of last season and his offensive talents were constrained by bill peters. He can easily slot in as a top 6 center on montreal's roster. As for fleury and bean, they will definitely slot in the hab's lineup. Canes have slavin and hanifin so they just don't have the room. Montreal needs centers and defense and I just don't see how jesperi kotkaniemi equals lindholm, fleury, and bean. Throw in a second round and the deal should be easy for habs fans to accept. The only reason I made this trade is because montreal said they will almost certainly take kotkaniemi 3rd overall. I agree with you that this package does not equal zadina, but it's definitely worth more than kotkaniemi

Huge mistake if they do that, Zadina is the real deal.
