Trotz brings some friends over to play defense.

Created by: Eli
Team: 2018-19 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bringing together the two best defensive defensemen Trotz has coached, adding a starting goalie, and the goalie coach who helped Braden Holtby get his groove back after Oates tried to get him to play a style he couldn't do--Kolzig was the German team's goalie for a few Olympics, before Greiss or Grubauer played for team Germany, so even though they all speak great English, they've got that experience in common, and it'd be cool to see Olie back up in the NHL, if the Isles can get permission to negotiate with him, as part of a trade.

No way Montreal trades Weber for anything but a first line center or equal role defenseman.
Giving up quite a high pick for Grubauer and Orpik. 2 seconds would probably do it I'd think. Washington has to give up Orpik if they want to keep their core together.

Yes! I'm so happy someone caught that! Thank you. Five stars to you! These are the important things, here.

Weber is still pretty good. Valuing him is tricky. I think Brooklyn is wealthy enough to be more bothered by his cap hit than excited about the lower actual value, and they're frustrated enough with how many injuries their defensemen sat out for last year that they're more excited about getting Orpik than Weber. If someone else bids higher for the guy who played fifteen games and watched his team miss the playoffs last year, Trotz will live.

Orpik had two points in the SCF in spite of two hand injuries, one of which has had minor surgery so far (severed fingertip). What was it Weber sat out with, again? A margarita and a stogie? Sell past achievements someplace else.

He still scores a point a game when healthy, and could teach Boychuk and Leddy how to play better defense, in the same way that Orpik and Niskanen came to Washington with Trotz as player/coaches. Weber's salary drops off each year, and if you buy it out, Nashville pays.
