Thanks. And Im not seeing that as 3LD or 1RD, if I do the pairings I would try my best to have them weighted perfectly so each pairing could play around 20 minutes a night. And each of those players can. You dont have no1 defender that takes 30min a night and you have players rested even if the game is tough. Why Gardiner with Hainsey on 3rd pairing? Both are special teams specialists, Gardiner would be PP specialist of course and Hainsey PK specialist and while playing 5on5 Jake was not solid defensively and to put him with Hainsey you wil get a stopgap for possible Gardiners mistakes. Gardiner in my mind is able to be as good as Carlson or even better and more productive than Carlson while playing lesser minutes.

Carlson is 40pts defender worth around 6mil. Everything above 7 is massive, buyout-in-future worth overpayment. Gardiner has better numbers one season prior to contract year than Carlson and if he is better next year than Carlson was this past year, dont be surprised.

Hahah Carlson played 10 less games and was injuries In 2017. He also finished w 6 less points hahaha yeah he’s better. And shatt took over his power play spot at the end of that season. Carlson was a top 5 d man in the nhl this year Gardner didn’t finish in the top 20 for the Norris. Please don’t just make stupid comments. In his own zone, they are both bad, over last 2 seasons, Gardiner had less giveaways than Carlson, had JUST 10 points lesser than Carlson (who you take as superstar lol) and in season prior to contract year (where players often play much better than the rest of the careers and Carlson is not exactly that) Gardiner had 15 points more and even if Carlson played full 82 games shedule, he would have less, dont try to tell me he wouldve gotten more, no way.

There would be a lot of capitals armchair gm teams that would trade Carlson next year enjoy his overpayed contract which he would never live up to

In their respective roles, Gardiner is significantly better than Carlson. Because Carlson takes tougher comp and has weaker partners, I could see people favouring Carlson. But I think those that think Gardiner is better have a valid argument. Gardiner is constantly a positive for his team's chances and goals for percentage, while Carlson isn't.

I see Gardiner play a lot, Carlson not so much. Thought Carlson was great in the playoffs, Gardiner more than not so much. Jake is fine for even good for 65 games a year, it's those bonehead plays in the other 17 games a season that really decreases Gardiiner's value....that's the eye test.
Sammy, if nothing else you've proved one thing IMO, those charts that are used to measure a players playing value, are pretty subjective..just like the eye test.
Not that I would pay Carlson 8m for the next eight years, I don't want to see Jake a Leaf in 2019/20.

Interesting stat a couple of years ago. (I'm doing this from memory)_. Gardiner was eight in giveaways by Dmen. Sounds bad. James Norris finalists Eric Karlsson and Brett Burns were # 1 and # 2 in turnovers. So players that take the burden of handling the puck will of course have more turnovers.
