Flyers Fans, Let Me Know Your Thoughts (Vegas Fans Too)

Description
Logic to the PHI deal is pretty simply. The trade is made because Simmonds and Flyers cannot agree on an extension and Myers is simply blocked on their defensive depth chart. There is an argument to be made whether or not Myers is NHL-ready anyway, as his AHL rookie season was just so-so.

As for the Vegas deal, I thought it seemed pretty fair. I'd imagine in such a trade scenario, Gardiner would be immediately extended. With rumors of Neal and Perron leaving, they need some additional offense, and Gardiner provides that.

For the sake of this thread, I have included the signing of Tavares. Even with a modest cap increase of $3 million going into the 2019-20 season, with such a Leafs team, it appears there would need to be additional changes/trades in order to extend Simmonds on top of what I imagine would be Matthews ($11.5 million AAV) and Marner ($8 million AAV).

I wouldn't include Myers in that deal. Mgmt is really high on him. He's the best RHD on the org depth chart.

Trading Kapanen and Neilsen for only one year of Simmonds doesn't make sense. There's no way the Leafs can resign him when he looks for big raise with Matthews and Nylander's deal are up

Why would Vegas want to extend Gardiner over Miller? Actually I like the Flyers deal for the Leafs, mostly because of Myers. But Flyers are really just getting Kappy. Leivo and Neilsen hold very little NHL trade value

Don't see Philly pulling the trigger on that deal, as it would essentially get rid of an up-and-coming RHD and one of their best forwards in exchange for a player with upside that we haven't realllllly seen yet. Big risk for them, but the thought of Simmonds leaving could happen if they aren't able to come to terms on an extension. Leafs definitely wouldn't want to give up much for him given that his contract only runs another year, but he would definitely shore up the offense. Overall, if you too Myers out of that trade, it would probably make a little bit more sense for Philly. As for the Vegas trade, you're going to have to be happy with receiving less for Gardiner, unfortunately. I think most teams are concerned with the inconsistencies in his play, and his offensive upside doesn't really balance out his lack of defensive structure, which kind of goes against Vegas' low risk, highly structured game plan. Miller would be more attractive to Vegas to keep, and definitely at the price of him and Bellemare, that wouldn't be a trade Vegas would go for.

I am making the gigantic assumption the Leafs sign Tavares. Without him signed, there would be no issue extending him. If all these deals magically came to fruition, I'd imagine the Leafs would deal Martin and Zaitsev, or Brown even, for some cap room.

I am a not a Flyers fan, but correct me if I am wrong on this depth chart assessment of RHD, and I am not including any most-recent draft picks. Gostisbehere, Gudas, Sanheim, McDonald, Myers, am I wrong? That is 4 NHL-calibre defensemen ahead of him.

Gardiner offers a significantly better transition game and more offense than Miller. If you pair Gardiner with say McNabb or Engelland and let him do his thing, the sky might be his limit, offensively. Leivo is a serviceable NHL-ready player who has never been given a real opportunity to succeed. The Leafs wouldn't be selling high on him or anything like that, but the Flyers would be adding to their wing depth with an affordable NHL-ready player.

When I said RHD I meant right handed not right side. Ghost Gudas and AMac all play the right side but I'm fairly certain Myers can leap both Gudas and AMac over the coming season. Gudas is coming off a "meh" regular season and a disastrous playoff series against the Pens. Myers is next in line to make the jump from the AHL to NHL in the Flyers roster. With Hextall potentially looking to move Gudas's $3.5 AAV and his public stmt's confirming the team needs a quality RHD I just don't see them moving Myers until they see what he can/can't do at the NHL level.
