Signing Johnson to a 5 year contract, no matter the salary, would be the worst signing of GMJR's career.

2 cups in 4 year. Maybe wait on being judge, jury and executioner.

5 years at $16 million seems steep, but maybe he needs the money after his folks robbed him dry.

Defense has him rightfully worried. Johnson will be best suited as a third pair defensemen that can plug into the middle 4 if need be for short periods. Wont crucify the deal just yet but definitely on the cautious side of things.

i wouldn't crucify it if it was like a 2 year deal but a 5 year deal? Yikes

$3.2m cap hit....I would've thought the earlier deal was setting the Pens up for a bigger splash

Terrible signing by PIT and I love it. Why not go after DeHaan?! Who is soooo much better and probably the same price.

2 cups in 4 years speaks for itself and made all the right deals. Johnson might and it is a massive MIGHT be better suited to play in an up tempo system. If he can be a good bottom pair defensemen for the next 2-3 seasons then this entire signing will be considered a win. Now the worry is signing Oleksiak/Sheahan and then trying to get a scoring winger to play on the left side.

your team needs depth. you just traded sheary and hunwick and signed jack johnson to a 5 year contract. your team will have to make a move or two to actually improve the team.

Completely agree the Penguins absolutely need defensive depth. Sheary costed 3m and now there are differing reports saying its a 6 year deal at 2.3 per which would be more affordable. That's hunwick money and still plenty left to try and sign other d and wings.
