lol what? I dont like this

If the sens are in trouble financially but want to stay competitive, why would want to keep their two worst contracts (e.g. Gáborík and Ryan's) and trade away all the veteran talent?

Also not saying that Melnyk is drowning in cash, but it's a refinance which every team in the leagues does on a regular basis Btw. Not sure how much you know about finance, but as an owner, you never ever spend your own money on your team, company, business, etc etc wtv. It's way too risky. You take out a loan and you pay off on a long-term plan. The difference between the Sens and the rest of the teams is that Melnyk decided to make this public to show fans that he's apparently committed and planning on investing a significant amount of money into the fans experience! We'll see I guess

I don't expect half the people on here to understand the finer details of finance and accounting but you are on point.

I do still think Melnyk went about it the wrong way. If you are going to have something like this get leaked or said or whatever, make it blatantly obvious so that the masses will understand right away. The above AGM is proof that he handled this badly and frankly even I didn't understand the first time around when I heard about it and I work in finance. Especially in Ottawa's never ending downward spiral of bad PR that has been going around. If he's genuinely committed to making it better, his PR team needs to wake up. If he doesn't have a PR team and just says things willy-nilly, well there in lies one of the many problems with Melnyk.

here is the thinking:
1) no 1st rd pick in 2019
2) EK65 and MD95 are UFA in 2019, and highly unlikely to come back to this hot mess
3) a farm system that is average at best
4) you need the BR9 and gaborik contracts to get to the $58.8M floor
5) no team wants those players or contracts, unless you eat some $$ - and in this scenario that is counterproductive
6) as the above scenario has played out the Sens saved $18.47M in 2019-2020; got 3 (keep 2) 1st rd picks, obtained 2nd/3rd picks, and also got a couple prospects & a legit 1-2 at Centre

I totally agree. It's nice to see someone else understands the finance aspect of it. The number of time I had to explain this to people.

But yeah, the Sens organization is PR mess. Brutal. They say all the wrong things and respond way too late to crisis'. Anyways, they hired this PR crisis management specialist last week. Probably to deal with the aftermath of an EK65 trade in Ottawa. So I guess that's good. lol

That's a good sign. What Ottawa really needs right now is to say as little as possible / have no more drama and let this dumpster-fire die down.

Ok, I see your point. I must say that I think there is fair value in all these trades. but here's my thinking Knowing a little bit about the Organization:

1) It's obvious that Karlsson wants to leave. But Duchene wants to stay. He's from the area, and is treated like a leader from the front office (Reaches out to rookies, asked about his opinion before making trades, etc.), which he loves.
2) WPG won't be able to resign Duchene. A bit much for a rental?
2) Farm team wasn't very good last year, but that doesn't mean they don't have good prospects coming up the pipelines. which they do
3) They do need a 2019 1st rounder. Probably from a EK65 trade.
4) good value on the ROR trade. IDK if Montreal lets that happen
5) a $2 million retained Ryan would still save the teams like $20M dollars. So I think they would do it.

Wow! I think you put a lot of thought into this, on some subjects which not many of us consider. I'm impressed by thinking outside the box, even if it leads to odd destinations (to mash a metaphor).
