What to do now? Offer Sheet

Created by: scarbrow21
Team: 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2018
Published: Jul. 3, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade Vegas for our 3rd round pick back, then offersheet Karlsson for 5 years. It'd cost a 1st 2nd and a 3rd, but would get us the C depth we'd need to compete while forcing Vegas hand at signing a guy to a higher AAV then they'd likely have wanted. Vegas very well matches that but would put them in a CAP strapped situation as well as serve as payback for the Brassard TDL issue and the signing of Stastny.

Doubt Chevy has any interest in getting back at Vegas for a few strategic moves that they used. Brassard move ended up working to the Jets advantage because it allowed them to go out and get Stastny, so no harm there, and they were simply willing to offer more for Stastny, so nothing wrong with that. I doubt the summer before Wheeler/Laine contracts Chevy would go out and lock up a player who has had one good season to an $8 mill a year contract when he is probably worth closer to $5. Sure, it would impair Vegas if they were forced to match, but I doubt Chevy would be willing to part ways with 3 high picks. He is a GM who has almost exclusively been a draft-and-develop guy, so that deal wouldn't be something he'd take. Like the idea though, and would love it if the Jets were able to find a good 2C.

I doubt Vegas gives Winnipeg's 3rd rounder back so they can open themselves to an offer sheet on their 1C
