Some BLOCKBUSTERS

Created by: TotheNorth
Team: 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 4, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
PHI is in the middle of "contend now" and "plan for the future". The trade does both for them. Nolan Patrick for Trouba (with extension) fills the need for PHI for a top pairing RHD locked up for all his prime at a semi-reasonable cap hit. WPG gets an excellent #2C who's a local boy that will likely flourish between Ehlers and Laine. Myers is moved to TOR for a 1st and Sparks which is likely reasonable considering TORs RHD needs and their desire to keep all of Marner, Nylander, Matthews, Kapanen, Dermott, and Liljegren.
Then the bunker buster. Send a tone of quality assets to OTT for Karlsson (without Bobby Ryan).
OTT gets:
- top 6 potential 1st line Winger in Vesalainen
- LD prospect in Stanley who still has all his ELC
- Skilled middle 6 playmaker in Petan (whos never been given a fair shake with the Jets)
- Depth LD in Chiarot who plays physical and is cheap
- 2 x 1st round draft picks in 2019
-an extra 2019 2nd
-a 3rd in 2020.

Quite the haul for a signed Karlsson who would likely view WPG as a spot he can contend for a cup for the entirety of his contract. Next year Laine, Wheeler, and Connor will all need raises (Karlsson too of 5M) but the 9.4M in current cap space, plus the Cap likely going up 2-4M, would give the Jets the ability to get Connor and Laine extensions done, but Perrault/Little/Kulikov likely need to be moved to get Wheeler in there too.

Yup. Lets ship out half of the top-4 D core to bring in Karlsson and more forwards.

No thanks. We aren't moving Patrick for a D. We have solid D in the system but nobody coming who would fill what Patrick could be.

That's a very steep price for 1 year of Myers. And the Leafs likely can't resign him. If anything the Leafs will pick up defensive help at the deadline for a cheap rental. They won't be taking on salary unless they can clear out Marleau who has a no trade clause.

I do like Myers a lot and think he'd really improve the defence but not at that price.

Like Frost for Trouba or Frost to fill Patricks role? We know what Patrick is and will likely be, Frost is looking very promising but is he Patrick, I doubt it.
