MTL has no interest in that trade.

I think you need to give up a tad more for Nylander, not much, just think the pick needs to be higher. But from TOR's viewpoint, Barrie is not the type of defenseman that team needs so they would like shop Nylander elsewhere.

Yea, Avs might be able to afford the cap at least short term, but it's still a lousy deal for Avs IMO.
Even with the fictional sign and trade,,,,,the Avs are really paying 14m for EK because Ryan is a 3m player. Plus the Avs trade Barrie and a lottery pick.
Wouldn't the Avs be a lot better off, keeping Barrie at 5.5m, having that lottery pick and have 11.5m spend on other players. than having EK at 11m and Ryan at 6m?

Barrie is a offensive D man and not what the Leafs need. They need someone who is steady on the back end and can help shut down the opponents top lines. Barrie can NOT do that.

Gotcha. I never watch the Leafs so I don't know their type of D needs. Just knew they needed to build there.

Yeah, I'm on the fence with it. I would be fine with the Avs sitting the EK madness out, or adding a prospect/player to avoid taking Ryan's contract. Barrie is a solid player in his own right, but there aren't many chances to add a generational player.

Either add Soderberg to the Ottawa trade, or just make the Barrie + Ottawa's first and another pick. I'm thinking add a prospect and 3/4 to the offer and take Ryan out of the trade.

I really just tossed Soderberg out there to clear room for the young guys. Not sure who he would go to, or if it happens this year or next. The Avs aren't forced to move him right now.

I don't think Barrie to OTT makes sense, unless they're going to flip him immediately. He's in his prime years, and it's a waste to have OTT pay him while they're rebuilding. That's why I had the 3-team trade to try to get OTT an additional solid, young player (22).

I lot of teams just might sit the EK madness. His leg injury is still a concern in my opinion. He wasn't nearly as good last season. And including Ryan in any deal really limits the teams that have cap or the desire to sign EK long term. Trading EK this summer, there may be few teams wanting to take the cap hit and will wait to see him play effectively again.. Ottawa might have to trade him as rental this summer.

I doubt OTT will have to trade him as a rental. EK started the season a little slow coming off the leg injury, but he ended with 31 points in 29 games after the all-star break on a horrendous team.

I agree that including Ryan really limits the deal for anyone, unless OTT is retaining a big chunk of salary. And who knows, maybe OTT isn't as desperate to move him now that they're way out of the playoffs. Gotta hit the cap floor somehow...

It's nothing against Tyson Barrie, but I doubt the Leafs would be interested. Yes, they'd need to make up for his missing offense, but the Leafs plan seems to be keeping Nylander, re-signing him and moving out Gardiner for some stable defense-first, or rather, a more all-rounded defenseman. If there was a defenseman the Leafs would be interested, it would probably be Connor Timmins. He's a RHD and plays a much more two-way game than either Gardiner or Barrie. Not sure what the cost would be there, certainly not Nylander.
