A tale of two cities Betterall's Rochester Amerks

Created by: GMTD

Description
I think the future looks very good. Betterall picked up 4 really good prospects this past year (O'Regan, Pilut, Hickey and Thompson).

Four defensemen and four right wingers who could potentially be in the NHL either this year or next year.

Center and LW, not nearly as strong, with only 2 potential NHL players in the mix (O'Regan and Asplund, Smith is a possible NHL as well).

But Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen could be the GK of the future and once Hutton's contract runs out he may be the #1 with Ullmark as his backup.

Does any one remember when DATM said Rochester will be good once his players get there? It was only after Betterall took over that Amerks made the playoffs with the players he put there.

Rights to Nick Baptiste. Baptiste was McDavid's Erie Otter line mate. Chiarelli makes a small investment hoping for big returns. If Baptiste scores 20 or more goals or 50 or more pts in the 2018-2019 season the 5th becomes a 3rd. If Baptiste scores 60 or more goals over the next 3 seasons (2018-2021), an additional 2nd is added in the 2021 draft.

This team is where Buffalo can really gain hope from, so many young talented players. Ogelvie will be in the forward ranks, Nelson has a one-way Deal so I don’t think Buffalo will risk sending him to ROCH, and Rochester signed Wilcox to a AHL Deal so he will probably battle with Johansson for backup to Wedgewood

They also signed a bunch of other guys like pietsch and zachRedmond, their leading scorer last year to AHL deals.

Thompson and guhle are not playing in the AHL

I agree with Thompson. I think Guhle could end up there due to the sheer amount of nhl contracts to defenders. He would be a quick injury/performance call up either way

Thank you for your comments. You always manage to give positive feed back in your comments. Sure Oglevie among the top 12, and I should have added Wilcox, and finally, I think a one way deal means he gets paid the same whether he is in the NHL or AHL league (see Nolan for example), but you are absolutely correct, he is not waiver exempt so he will definintely be in Buffalo next year.

Yes, thank you very much I missed them. But my primary focus was to zero in on the prospects and note that there are 11 or 12 who could be in the NHL this year or within 3 years. So players as Hunwick, Sobotka etc. are place holders until these prospects are ready.

Thank you for your comment. You may very well be correct about both. If I put Guhle in Buffalo he may not get much playing time and I think he needs to learn how to play defense. He presumes his speed will make up for many of his defensive lapses. Thompson, a similar situation, was pressed into action too soon and will benefit spending time in the AHL. Also, Bailey is out of options, and I think he is more ready for the NHL. Until Betterall can find a home for Pominville or if Bailey fails miserably, the teams best option is to keep Thompson in Rochester.

NP, I figured with O'Regan and Thompson, the Amerks would have a very good top line.

Thank you all. I do not want to rush any of the prospects, this current Sabre team MAY make the playoffs, but is far away from a cup. Betterall said it early when he came here, the younger players need to get a taste of a championship in the AHL then they will want it more in the NHL. This is obviously something DATM never understood because his Amerks always finished last. Betterall's Amerks were in the hunt until injuries forced him to make call ups of the better players.
