Paciorretty trade ANA, Weber on LTIR

Created by: jayjenkins
Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 6, 2018
Published: Jul. 6, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
MTL side
Giving up: Pacioretty, Danault
Both need fresh start to play well and are worth a lot right now
Receiving: Henrique, Kesler, Comtois, 1st
This adds center depth that is very needed. Price is in his prime so waiting for prospect development would not be taking advantage of window to win. Henrique and Kesler take pressure off of Kotkaniemi in first year so he can play without pressure of being "the answer". Although Henrique and Kesler could be short-term solutions, if adding them helps with Kotkaniemi's development it's worth it as he could be #1 C for years to come.

ANA side
Giving up: Henrique, Kesler, Comtois, 1st
Need to make room for Terry, Steel as they are ready to contribute in the NHL. Getzlaf stays #1 and Rakell is able to play C if needed so ANA isn't loosing that much C depth. Giving up a 1st and Comtois are the return for Pacioretty and for MTL taking majority of Kesler's contract. Giving up this cap means ANA can resign Gibson in off-season so it's worth giving up 1st and quality prospect.
Recieving: Pacioretty, Danault, Byron
Adding Pacioretty will boost top 6 and Danault adds another C to team if Terry or Steel aren't ready to play in top 6 yet as Danault can play 2nd or 3rd line behind Getzlaf. Byron is roster spot in trade and adds depth to ANA roster

I thought I read somewhere that Kesler might not be back this season due to a hip injury would be my only comment ... Henrique would be a good add.

I didn't know that about Kesler. That would really affect this layout. Yeah I think MTL should get Henrique regardless because ANA really doesn't need him and hes a FA this upcoming summer anyway

I'd keep Hudon for this year at least, he can chip in 25-30 points playing at the league minimum so he's more valuable than a 4th round pick, but maybe he's one of those guys that gets dealt at the 2019 TDL

laugh Kesler isn't going to waive for crap hole Montreal, And he's on record saying that he's done playing Canada. Besides he's probably going to miss 3/4 of the season any ways due to his ailing hip.

Kesler is way past his prime and only going to be anchor at this point. Also has an NMC so if he were to waive it, he probably wouldn;t waive it again to be traded again. Plus losing Danault is pointless.

I guess I should of rephrased it better. Habs need to be getting younger not older. Yeah sure we get Comtois and the 1st but we could get that for Pacioretty alone anyway so the rest is not where the Habs should be going.

if we're moving Byron and Pacioretty, we want picks and prospects only. Nothing else.. They're both cheap, there is no need for taking cap dumps or what not. Maybe some retention on Pacioretty to make it a little easier but thats it.

Habs moving Danault at this juncture in time is like Anaheim trading Gibson.....it just doesn't make any sense for either team. He's one of the only players at the position of need we have and is young and cheap.
