Everytime the Canadiens and their PR dept. Open their mouths, the market for Patches plummets. Already at an all time low, and adding depth pieces doesn't improve it, I don't think you can expect anywhere near this type of return!

Montreal easily passes. If it was for Pacioretty alone, maybe, but Lindgren and Lernout are plyayers that will be getting significant I’ve time this year and It’s Montreal’s decision year on them.

I'm a MTL fan, and it's a huge overpaid from MIN... Remove Staal from MIN and the 3rd from or Lindgren from MTL

Yeah Subbanator, you need to cool it buddy. Your analysis of MTL players is really really bad and this is coming from another Habs fan in myself. Its one thing to be a little bias towards our own players but this blatant homerism. These kind of comments is what makes non Habs fans lose their shirt, and rightfully so. There is literally no explanation for your analysis. Please for the sake of the rest of us Habs fans on this site, cool it.

idk about everybody else but I actually like this trade...Staal just put up 40 goals, hes still in great shape and is a natural 1C who can act as a mentor for the kids coming in who need some tips and what not at C and can still produce. Niederreiter is a consistent 20 goal scorer who is still only 25 years old, and a RW where we actually need some depth. AND two 2nd round picks?? im taking this deal all day long, did you guys see the kids we drafted in the 2nd round 2018? studs. Good deal.

Why? Staal is a good player but has maybe two seasons left even playing, Niederieter is a good winger but still only a 50 point guy. Two seconds are a good point but Montreal is most likely looking for a first in a Pacioretty trade.

Also my analysis is correct, RHD without Weber will be a weakness, enter Lernout, Lindgren will compete for the back up job and at 24 Is a goalie prospect on the rise.

Plus if Pacioretty is getting trade it’s for youth and picks. So I repeat again, easy no from the Habs, that’s not a homer opinion, it’s simply looking at the situation and knowing that Montreal wouldn’t be looking for those pieces. It’s not because of the value, it’s because Montreal isnt giving up on prospects quite yet, this the year to see what they have in them.

Ugghh yes. Staal is a center that is coming off 43 goals. BTW that more than Pacioretty has ever scored in a year. He can be moved at the TDL for more than Pacioretty will probably get at the TDL. Throw in Niedereiter who is young signed long term winger who can put up what....75-85% of Paciorettyls production and will do it for longer than Pacioretty will.....THEN two 2nd rounders. Two second rounders are the equivalent of a late 1st so there is your 1st right there.

What are the Habs giving up? Pacioretty whose value is at an all time low. Lindgren who is a decent goalie prospect but not a superstar prospect in any shape or form. Lernout? LERNOUT? Just because he is a RH dman does not make him anything more than what he is. A depth dman and if the Habs really need one there are plenty on the UFA market that can give you what Lernout can.He isn't a bad prospect by any stretch but he adds very little value to a trade. You aren't fooling anyone. I know every Habs prospect as well as anyone other Habs fan on here.

There is a reason every Habs fan on here thinks this is a steal and you are the only one who thinks otherwise. Take a hint!

The reason being because I have a different opinion? I see the value but I don’t like the trade. I would rather let Lernout and Lindgren play and see what they have (admittedly because they should lose for Hughes). And trade Pacioretty for a prospect and pick not in the NHL. Bergiven has done to many of these trades that are lateral trades that try to keep us afloat, that’s what this trade is, the second round picks help stockpile but it’s atill a move that tries to improve our team right now, which isn’t what’s I think he should be trying to accomplish when trading Pacioretty.

Oh no no no. You are misunderstanding the goal here. Not taking Staal and Niederreiter because we need them to be better, taking them so that they can be flipped for more picks and prospects. Staal at the TDL will get a nice haul and Neidereitter too. Combined, the value of the assets will be worth more than Pacioretty, lernout and Lindgren would get sold separately.

At the TDL:

Staal: Minimum what Stastny got.
Neiderreiter: Minimum what Galchenyuk got.

add everything up?

MINIMUM: Max Domi, Prospect Erik Foley, 1st , 2nd, 2nd, 4th for Pacioretty, Lernout and Lindgren and 3rd.........

Ya but we both know that if Staal scorers like he did last year Montreal will be competing, same with Niederretier, he gets on pace for 50 points and they think they have a shot at a wild card spot.

My goal would rather be, trade Pacioretty for picks and prospects, quality over quantity preferably, make sure pieces that won’t play next year and make sure they are well out of it by Christmas, talking bottom of the league results.

Then at the trade deadline you sell off Byron, Benn, Plekanec and Shaw. The young guys get all the playing time they can handle, Montreal gets a top 5 draft pick and probably a bunch of other picks

Whats wrong with trading Staal andNeidereitter right away? There doesn't have to be a waiting period.... it can be a 3 way deal even like Duchene/Turris/picks and prospects deal.....

Regardless, we both want the same thing. Good value for Pacioretty. The above trade is the best value we'll get for him. That is an absolute haul that if we traded Staal and Neidereiter afterwards for picks would yield a higher return than juts Pacioretty alone.

If we could find a three way trade partner that would be cool. I agree they would get a haul when we moved them at the trade deadline, I would just hate listening to the media all year ‘Montreal gets their Center, it’s time to make a push!’ No we would still suck, trade him get picks.

They drive hope because it’s money for them, rather then shut up for a season and save the hope when it can be real.

Well on this site we have to assume we're in charge here (what I would do as GM). Not what Mb would. I would make this trade is a heart beat and tell the media its all a means to an end. I'm sure the players involved would prefer going to a playoff calibre team also.
