Description
Let me know what you think about the value and fit of each trade.

RumorBreak (you can decide if that’s a legit source or not) tweeted that Montreal has called on Matt Duchene, which isn’t a surprise considering they’ve been after him before.

The Tampa fit it obvious, but I’d like to hear thoughts on the value being exchanged. I think Sergachev, a couple prospects (Foote, Raddysh) and a 1st rounder is a good place to start for Karlsson. Then with Callahan going to Ottawa and Dzingel going back to Tampa, they add in Gourde.

At first I though the trade with Montreal would involve pieces coming from Tampa Bay, but I think as long as the Habs are willing to take Ryan’s contract, it would make more sense for them to simply give up less than swap prospects and young players back and forth.

Considering what the Senators gave up for Duchene - Turris, Bowers, and a first round pick - I think a return of top prospect (Juulsen), a good young player (Hudon), and a 1st in addition to taking Bobby Ryan is a fair value.

The Duchene trade that you are basing your Habs trade off of was an overpayment, and the Canadiens aren't in a situation to overpay for a top center during a rebuild.

Totally agree that they overpaid with Colorado. Although to be fair, no one though the first round pick would be a lottery pick. But even so, two major pieces to “upgrade” from Turris to Duchene was too much. That’s why I think the value is pretty fair in the Montreal deal. The Habs don’t have to overpay because they can leverage cap space to take Bobby Ryan. What would you change?

Why is that? No offense, but it’s not really helpful to anyone to just say “no” without an explanation. What would you change?

The Habs 2019 1st will be a lottery pick, so I think that a more fair trade would be Poehling, Lehkonen, and Hudon. Lehkonen has yet to break out and become a top-six forward. Hudon will become a good 3rd line forward, and Poehling has some 1st line potential.

I would not be giving up Foote AND Sergachev for Karlsson who will handcuff this team cap wise in the next year or two. Tampa's D are deep enough that they don't need Karlsson .. I would much rather Sergachev & Gourde in my lineup with the other guys close to NHL ready.

I am not sure exactly why that guy said no, but right now Tampa needs to shed cap, if Ottawa was willing to take back one more high contract in that trade, I see them going for it. That being said, the issue here is ownership, they cannot afford to pay players that no one wants to see. If Ottawa can "over pay" for bigger names, names that can sell tickets? I don't, Ottawa needs to sell.

Tampa would not just "add in" Gourde. I think without Gourde in the mix, this is a viable trade. Gourde being included in this mix makes the trade a bit too rich for my liking.

The Gourde piece is probably what pushes Tampa over the edge - I think it's too rich.

Just looking at this line-up is making me depressed... Seriously, who is even going to go to a Sens game next year? Where will the goals come from? And defensively, who will stop the puck?

Tampa isn’t giving up both Sergachev and Foote. You can have one or the other... Why would I give up 2 great young players when I can wait a year for EK. No deal.
