Ryan Hartman brought a 1st round pick to Chicago and Hartman is half the player hyman is

"Third line grinder" scored 40 points last year, and yes ik that was on Matthews wing, but he's gonna be glued to Matthews or Tavares for the next two years and I think 45-50 points is easily a possibility. A first rounder may be unlikely; I think a second rounder is more realistic, but my point was that I think they should trade him before he hits UFA and wants a ton of money

IMO gardiner is more valuable to this team than Hyman. Hes arguably a top-pairing dman and whether the "eye test" believes it or not, the stats back it up.

Yeah I agree Hartman was a completely different situation: hes younger and he was a former first round pick so he has that draft pedigree. Also, he was still gonna be an RFA this year (Nashville re signed him now), but still a bad trade for Nashville.

the fact that you just mentioned gardiner and top pair D-man in the same sentence just made you loose all credibility. i will excuse myself from this conversation now

I know he is. You cant compare value of Gardiner and Hyman. IMO Hymans off-ice value and on ice heartful contribution is more valuable than Gardiner but thats my opinion. Hyman is not going to be traded at any day of his NHL career. Gardiner, as much as I back his game up, is likely gone on July 1st 2019 to some team just like JVR who was in basically the same position this past season. We have young guys in the system who would go in when Gardiner is gone. Sad, but Jake is likely gone after great season..

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if you're right. But even if Gardiner is gone, Hyman might still ask for too much money because he'll be 29 and UFA, his last chance to cash in.

He is team first player and heart and soul for this team. Even if he gets 4mil per for 4yrs we could very easily handle it because Seattle expansion would take one of Kapanen or Brown

If the Leafs were interested in trading Hyman (I don't they are), they might get a first rounder from a team whose pick is 25th and 31, but certainly not from a likely non playoff team like Arizona. I just don' think the Leafs really have the cap or desire to resign Gardiner.
