Trades with NSH / NYI blockbusters

Created by: GSGHARRIS
Team: 2018-19 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 23, 2018
Published: Jul. 23, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Thought process: Dorion has been ordered to move out salary, I.e attaching Ryan to any Karlsson trade. Stone is expected/should be getting at least Ryan money with his next contract. Nashville currently has Turris from the Duchene trade and already has great chemistry with both Karlsson and Stone. Nashville adds the best RHD in the league and 2 60pt players (60pts being their floor). The lose their best prospect in Tolvanen, a very good young forward in Fiala who should flirt with 50pts again this season and flip Subban into Karlsson. This is a win now move that takes advantage of the Senators current management situation that believes moving a generational talent is a wise move but they can still sell hope of a better future with the young LW's and money in the short term.

Now, if you followed the Duchene media in Colorado, you probably also believe that Duchene probably doesn't want to be here for a rebuild. NYI fans are understandably upset that Tavares left right when their team was turning the corner and looking pretty good. I largely picked NYI because they have the capspace, likely motivated to make the trade and I followed this year's draft pretty closely having the 4th overall pick and I am a huge fan of Wahlstrom and a big fan of Dobson and provides a unique opportunity to add 2 blue chip prospects, a good young winger in Beauvillier who just scored 20G in his second NHL season (and the only roster player I'm asking for); Aho who got a taste of the NHL and had a pretty good first pro year. Duchene needs a raise next year and Barzal in two years, I took Boychuk to help them cap wise in those years and help offset the cap difference in the trade even though they have nearly 15million in cap space this season.

Out: (the entire core) Karlsson, Stone, Duchene (6.5 / 7.5* / 6 = 20 Million)

In: (hope for a better Melnyk-less future) Roster: Fiala (22yr old 1yr ELC 863k), Beauvillier (21yr old 1 yr ELC left 900k), Aho (22yr old 2 yrs of ELC left 770k) (likely) and Boychuk (34yrs old 6Mil x 4 remaining misses games every season). Blue Chip Prospects: Tolvanen (19 yr old 3 years 900k ELC), Walhstrom (ELC not signed yet), Dobson (ELC not signed yet) about 9 Million in contracts.

Nashville wins: the cup

NYI win: Contender status. Their roster competes with WSH, PIT, PHI / TOR, TBL. Probably the 3rd or 4th best behind PIT,TOR,TBL of that eastern conference group.

Dorion said they were going to play more youth, this forces it to happen.

Youth on roster: Dzingle 26, White 21, Wolanin 23, Chabot 21.
Youth on their way: Brown 20, Sturtz 23 (RW NCAA signing), Gustavsson 20 Goalie, Luchuk 21, Jaros 22, Formenton 18, Gagne 21, Batherson 20, Chaplik 21, Paul 23, and now all the above from the trades. Plus the other Sens selections that do not have contracts yet like Tkachuk, Nurmi etc. I am not super excited about the current roster when compared to the better eastern teams but I could definitely wait for to see how this group grows up together.

Don't mind the trades but you should really keep Duchene for a top center.

Assuming this team needs about 3 years to mature he'll be 30-31 and I doubt Duchene stays for another rebuild. It's why his time in Colorado was so public about him wanting out. One of those current prospect or future top 5 Sens selections will likely turn out to be a top line center, when we actually need one.

I like the Idea and the thought process!

I do not like Wahlstrom + Dobson has blue-chip prospects tho. They're kinda known to be bad apples in their organizations (less-so Dobson, more-so Walhstrom).

Yes, I am aware. With 217 others, what's your point?

Amazing how you can make a "bad apple" claim. Like they've made that much of an impression.

lol you are right... I may have exaggerated on Dobson. He's probably going to be a really good player. I really liked him going into the draft. But thing is, everyone had him (Mckenzie, Central Scouting, etc) going 5-6 OA. But he dropped to 10-11, which doesn't seem that much but it is when you're ranked that high. That being said, picks 5-10 were all very close.

What I should've said is,

Wahlstrom is a bad apple. You guys literately got Ho-sang 2.0.. Raw talent but a cocky, selfish, and arrogant kid, who, if not properly manage, will go to waste.

Where are your sources? You are recklessly bashing a kid with baseless claims. Wahlstrom was the most pure goal scorer in the entire draft. That's a fact. He (like Dobson) dropped because other teams reached. Hayton and Kravtsov had no business going Top 10 - which resulted in two premier prospects being gifted to the Isles.

I'm not evening arguing the premise of this post because it's so unrealistic. (But for the record, I would hypothetically make the trade as an Isles fan). All you're doing is slandering a kid.

I know a handful of people who've played with him growing up.

But, I guess we'll wait and see.
