The price trade is a joke right? That contract is so bad and you think you'll get the first overall pick out of it? I don't think the aves would do varlamov for price straight up

I actually could see us getting Patches as a rental (there is no way we could re-sign him next summer) and I was wondering about Weber on a retained salary deal because he will most likely be DONE as an effective player once Montreal is ready to contend.

Getting 5 years younger with Gardiner, our top LW prospect not named Johnsson - Timashov and a 1st round pick adds even more youth to Montreal.

No desire to trade Marleau....at all.

EDIT:

I see you removed the Toronto trade....

The idea was to trade Pacio for Marleau + more, because Pacio is better, younger and less expensive.
Very interesting trade idea for Weber.

Yeah, Price just doesn't make much sense for the Aves. Price is a win now goalie, the Aves really aren't there yet. And then his contract, I thought Hank's deal was tough! Price is going to be super hard to move, Montreal is going to have to find a very specific trade partner. Even then, you aren't getting a ton back, and your likely going to have to eat a few M's. The older/more injured he gets, the harder it will become!

Adding the lottery pick into this makes it humorous.

Oh you have a short memory haha. Price has his worst year goaling in front of one of the worst defense in the league. For you Varlamov >> Price ?
Price has proven that he's an elite goalie by winning many trophees and he has been far in playoff. In the last few years, MTL was first in the Atlanctic division with (because of) him.

Marleau has NMC....he isn't going to a non playoff team. Certainly the Avs aren't trading the possible 1st overall pick for anyone.

Read what I wrote. Price is the better goalie, but he has an awful contract. The habs couldn't get a first rounder for him, forget about a guaranteed top five pick

2nd round pick and a bad contract. How about lucic, talbot, and a 2nd for price

We might agree to disagree on Pacio and Marleau as I see Marleau doesn't have the offensive scoring as Pacio or JVR but plays the body, is an effective center, plays a complete 200 ft game and has soft hands in front of the net. After watching Marleau for a few games in San Jose especially the playoffs and being impressed I will concede that Pacio is better than Marleau in certain areas but as an overall player I feel that Marleau is better.

I have to be honest and admit that I haven't watched many regular season Hab's games in the last 3 years here on the East Coast of Canada since web streaming has allowed me access to the whole NHL schedule. I have caught almost all their playoff games though. The previous 42 years I was forced to watch Montreal games ad nauseam. smile

Gardiner is a top skater, very creative offensively (not sure if you have seen his amazing breakout passes that show an elite hockey IQ) and is 5 years younger than Weber. We have gotten burned by him like you used to with Subban but the offensive upside FAR out weighs the odd defensive gaff IMO. It would give Montreal that skill in a LHD that they are sorely lacking.

OTOH Weber is a strong, heavy shooting RHD that was never a great skater before and now has had serious leg injuries making him even slower. Interestingly, with the speed and skill on our defence we don't have anyone strong enough break up the cycle in our D zone nor do we have anyone with his shot. His lack of foot speed could be compensated for by a number of Leaf LHD. Retain just $2,357,143 while rebuilding and I feel both sides win.

Patches as a rental for a 1st pick and a top LW prospect gets Montreal cheaper and younger for a player that won't be coming back. Add a decent 3rd pair RHD like Carrick or Holl to sweeten the deal.

I am not saying he doesn't have significant value, but for a very specific buyer. Not to a team mid rebuild, and certainly not the potential 1st pick overall.

It would have to be a contention team, with a lower 1st rounder. Add some solid prospects into that, and ask Montreal to eat money, now your in the ballpark.

Well, ya, if MTL eats money it's a whole different conversation. I don't think they will eat 8 years of money though.

That would make Price unmovable! Nobody is going to take on 10.5m for 8 years of a 30 year old goalie with health questions. Just won't happen imo.

Last time Habs traded a goalie to Avs it didn’t work out to well for them.
