I really think that you don't need to retain price for that cheap. you could probably get an extra pick out of him. But overall it looks good. Have a lot young prospects to reboot ina sense.

Even ignoring the retained salary on Price, that is a very poor return. Price in place of Darling pushes CAR into a playoff spot. So two non-lottery picks, a bottom six forward prospect (Gauthier) an at best bottom pairing D (McKeown) and a back-up goalie?

yea, but I get why he made it a low return. because of the risk of him getting injured from his history.

I guess you would lowball offers for Crosby because of injury history?

Very interesting stuff.

The only deal that is in question is the Price deal, simply because it's so hard to gauge his true value (contract, health, age etc).

I guess it comes down to Carolina's feelings about competing over the next year or two (while price is still in his prime). If this is a yes, I don't think this is a bad deal for them. The retained money is an absolute must! Gauthier is a nice prospect, McKeown less so. Carolina would be a bubble team, so the 2019 pick is up for debate. Overall I'd say if Carolina likes their chances (with all that D in front of Price), and you swap out McKeown for something a little more attractive for Montreal, it's not a bad deal.

no its different. I meaning I get why he did that because of all the injuries in the past 3 year span. Crosby is a little different because he came back from the injury easily.

That petry deal is not a very good deal for MTL.
30-40 Point RH dman with retained salary and a 3rd for a player that has played 18 games?

LOL you're comparing apples and elephants.

2017-2018 49 48 16 26 0 7 1,487 148 3.11 .900 1 2,855 = Price's stat line last year. When has Crosby ever put up a sub par season like this???

Like it or not, Price has something to prove. He's on the wrong side of 30, has an injury history, and owns a whale of a contract! I am not saying he's trash, if he rebounds he's an elite goalie, but it's still a gamble for whatever team takes that money on. Say we pull out a crystal ball and can see Price continues to miss time due to injuries, Montreal would take the deal and run!

Not to mention that Crosby's contract is actually ridiculously affordable, and not even close to one of the biggest around.

LOL yea, I always laugh when I open CapFriendly and see his contract as the example. He probably curses at the TV when he sees 21 year olds getting 10 mil.

Naw, he's making bank being the poster boy for the league, and will continue to long after he's done. It's like Tiger making $90 mil/year without even stepping on a golf course.

he could have signed for more per year at the time but wanted it to help the team and in the process decided on 8.7 specifically, of course the length of time was also longer than what is allowed under the new CBA but was a thing at the time. So even though his contract is very team friendly it was still over $100million. The thing is with that contract also is it was frontloaded with the actual money so even though his cap hit will still be 8.7 every year he is actually only owed 3million per year the final three years, while getting about 9-10million per the next couple. Money wise he wasn't making much less than other top players but his cap hit was lower cause of the final 3 years.

I was not aware of that he was actively taking less and front-loading to keep his team in the hunt. That's very cool!
