My thinking is that Ottawa will sign Karlson for long term. Why would they have traded Hoffman if it wasn't to sign Karlson?

they offered him a contract and he turned it down, so they let other teams talk to him because they dont have permission from owners to pay that much. this is how buffalo went from best team in league to dumpster fire in 3 years. ottawa is doing it a bit faster but a new owner can fix everything.

Just 1 million more and they have a deal. A million is penny in this game. They negociate and work it out and they will sign him. I beleive it or sell this franchise to Québec City.

I makes a lot of sense for both teams. Colorado needs more work up front but moving Barrie and Ottawa’s first for Karlsson makes a lot of sense.

i think they could offer him the max 15.9 million per season and he would still say no. It's clear he doesn't want to be part of that dumpster fire of a franchise.

They should have kept Hoffman instead of giving him away for almost nothing.

Your right. Getting the best D in our generation in his prime doesnt make sense. I get it. The puck will be high. But I bet that Karlsson is better then a pick at 5-7 which is possible if Karlsson stays. If you get hard for Barrie then I get it. I like Barrie too. But he’s underwhelmed since his dominate playoff run a few years back. I don’t think kerfoot would be included in the trade. I said Barrie 1st for Karlsson.

What do you think about the Florida Panthers locker ? Do they deserve that ? Ottawa should have taken't their time to get a better deal knowing Karlson wouldn't sign if this is the case which I don't think is.

Montréal got rid of Chris Chelios very quick in a kind of not the same but similar situation. Worst trade in Serge Savard general manager era. He didn't have the choice. .

Well, a few things. first, doughty has always been better than karlsson, from day 1 to now. Now let's move on to what they're actually getting, and that's one year of erik Karlsson, and everyone knows that the senators have to trade him. The price just won't be that high. The bidding war hasn't emerged. Now let's look at what they're giving up, and keep in mind, this is a young team that wants to look to the future. a 50+ point d man who is 26, a 20 year old 10th overall pick, AND the pick that has the best odds to be first overall.....not...a...chance. I think that's a pretty fair offer if you add stone.

The trade of Phaneuf and Gaborik was just about that. Saving a million for Ottawa.

I am getting tire of these bean counters in Ottawa.

If you can't afford a hockey franchise and serve your fan base.. just sell it and go to the Bahamas and start another restaurant.

I am not an ottawa fan this happend to my team in buffalo a few years ago. we won presidents cup then lost chris drury and danny briere because owner wouldnt agree to pay contracts, they also fired the scouting staff to save costs. a few years later and team has yet to recover from that. moral of story is owners are jerk bags who dont care about you or what you think so long as the team makes money.

Sorry to ear that, but it is just the way it is. In Montréal they ruin the baseball franchise the same way trading every year every prospect who cold sign a long term deal. This was the Jeffrey Loria era. Then the franchise move to Washington. I was a baseball fan and now no way.
