A trade for current success

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2018-19 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 29, 2018
Published: Jul. 29, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Avs get a big boost to their blueline with Tanev's shot suppressing skills. They could line him up as the stalwart on a pairing with Girard or use him with Cole as a true shutdown pair. Losing a good prospect like Timmins would hurt, but they'd have a very good right side in Johnson/Barrie/Tanev, and Makar will push for a spot on the team soon.

This isn’t bad until you consider how much time Tanev misses

I don't understand this move unless it was a final piece to win a Cup. That's not what this is, so I'd rather hold on to Timmins. Why would they make this move? To hopefully win a playoff round, if they even make the playoffs after St. Louis rebounds next year? I like the way Colorado's rebuild is going so far, and this move doesn't really make any sense.
