Still wouldn’t have picked Forsberg over Galchenyuk. Forsberg is the better player now but think Galchenyuks development is more the issue then the player.

I think Galchenyuk is still one of the most mismanaged players of this decade.
You have a guy begging to play first line C and they demote him for every little mistake.
Yet Desharnais, who wouldn't even be a 4th line C right now, was playing top minutes every single night...........

Agreed. At the time of the draft, Galchenyuk was the easy pick at #3 and would have gone #1 if he didn't have the knee injury his draft year. Draft hindsight is always 20/20.

With all that hindsight, maybe they get an interview with a guy like JT this summer (not that a meeting really means anything if you dont sign him). The team overall is better and is a playoff team (though likely a first round exit depending on how well their D played). I think you also missed Markov. Not willing to pay his contract demand last season and losing that puck moving defence hurt their offensive production and getting the puck up ice. Resigning him and allowing Mete to develop in the AHL a little more may have been more beneficial (though his future outlook is still not fully determined now).

The best thing they could have done was sent him back down to the OHL and played a full season as a center there before making the move into the NHL.

I’ll always be a little mad that they didn’t bring back Markov, but it also got us Kotkaniemi. I do know one thing though, if Markov was with this team, you would see Mete become a star under him. He would be able to teach and hand down so much knowledge to a kid like that.
