Why does every Sharks fan want to trade Meier. I thought u don't trade young forwards with really high potential

Imo this is an overpayment for Hayes maybe give up an ok player plus those picks. Meier will probably be better then Hayes and I doubt the Sharks will trade Meier. My personal opinion though.

San Jose lost out on Taveras. They are in a desperate need of a center. Hayes is someone they can sign long term after this season. Hayes fits the mold of a SJS center, big body, soft hands and plays good defense.

Couture is a better center than Hayes....They were going for Taveres cuz he was the best FA.

Yes, they didn't get Tavares, but they have Cotuure, Thornton, Pavelski, Tierney to play center. They weren't looking for Tavares BECAUSE he was a center. They were trying to bring him in because he is a really good player that would have helped the team.

I'm fine bringing in Hayes, and I think he would fit well on the Couture line (as a winger). Timo Meier is not what you are going to give up to get him. That is a huge overvalue of Kevin Hayes. Likely, it will be a guy like Chris Tierney. Tierney is a great 3rd line center, who the Rangers might see as a future #2. The Sharks could see him the same way, but Hayes is a better player right now. Hayes could be the #2 in SJ when Thornton can't do it anymore. Tierney + prospects/picks would be the more realistic route.
