Opening night lines idea

Created by: Caniac555
Team: 2018-19 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 12, 2018
Published: Aug. 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Teuvo / Aho / Zykov- this line played well at the end of last year. Maybe they can continue to grow together.

Ferland / Staal / Williams - tough line to play against. Ferland should give a scoring edge on this line.

Rask / Necas / Svechnikov - putting a defensive minded left handed forward in Rask with the two young guns should help their development.

Foegele / Martinook / McGinn - I think both Martinook and Foegele should get a chance to center a checking line with scoring upside. To add to that, all three players can eat up mins in other spots in the lineup.

Blue Line ... Keep Slavin & Pesce together. Hamilton & DeHaan make a hell of a pairing #2. Faulk & Van Riemsdyk make one of the best 3rd pairing.

Rask won 55% Of his faceoffs last year. They aren’t moving him off center. Aho was at 45% and isn’t very good defesively there. He would be better off at wing and so would the team. But without a #1 center they may be forced too. Don’t be surprised if Necas is in the AHL. He has never played in North America outside of jr. tournaments. The game is more physical and the schedule more compact. He could use some time in the AHL to adjust. Looks solid though.

McDavid has a career face off percentage of 42 and isn’t a likely Selke candidate...should he be moved to the wing? Aho is a natural center that’s only had a handful of games, at his natural position. He continues to prove that playing for Team Findland. Faceoff’s and D-zone coverage can be learned and improved. Size wise he’s similar to Giroux, Crosby, Point, Duchene, RNH, Trocheck, etc. The kid wants and deserves his shot and they will most likely give it to him.

Aho played wing all thru juniors. He is not a natural center.

There is a saying in hockey. You can always turn centers into wingers but you can’t turn wingers into centers.

Incorrect he played centre in finland. Annd at the IIHF.And at the end of last season. Rask isn't working as a C. A C doesn't have to take faceoffs, they just have to control the middle of the ice. He's a centre playing down the wing. Faceoffs are not everything and having Teravainen who playe as a C in chicago woeks

Sure, that’s why he was listed as LW on draft day. He was playing LW with Laine at center and Pujuljsrvi on rw at worlds jrs. Was playing LW for Karput when he was drafted.

He centred Laine and Pool party. He was a centre at Karput, he was listed as a C/LW on draft day.

Wrong. Laine was center. I watched the whole tournament. He was a LW at Karpat. Was listed as LW on draft day. Google it . Still listed as LW on any hockey site. Believe whatever you want man.

I was in person at the tournament he was the centre. You clearly didn't watch clearly. It's known he centered Poolparty anf Laine. Laine can't play centre. Aho can. It's well known. Oh and google says C/LW so.....

Current constructed - Canes do not have much of a choice unless we want to continue forcing Staal into the 1C role for another season.

The point with Rask at LW on a line with Necas is that they can both handle faceoff duties on their sides of the ice, and Rask can stablize the lane with his defensive ability.

There is no question the Canes are light at C, but in my opinion this is he best we can do for now...

I don't mind the idea of Rask at wing, especially with Necas. It's the type of thing you might try in pre-season. That said, I doubt it would happen or work. Rask has always played center. I think it's more likely Rask is the 4th line center.

I don't know why people keep putting Martinook at center. I think that's unrealistic. I've not seen Foegle listed as playing center - if he hasn't in AHL then I don't see him moving there either. Much more likely would be Wallmark gets called up.

I think the other thing RBA might try is putting Svech with Staal, while Necas centers Williams (at least to start the season, and ease 2 rookies into the NHL). While Staal doesn't have the goal finishing ability, he's a puck possession monster and could set up Svech to be the scoring threat. I get the appeal of Necas-Svech as the 2nd scoring line behind Aho-TT, so that would still be the plan eventually.
