Draisaitl is likely to cost a young scoring winger with term, A level prospect and a 1st round pick.

You have offered an ageing UFA scoring winger, b level prospect, and a first.

Even Simple Pete says no to this one dawg.

I wouldn't even move Larkin for this deal, Let alone trading 7 years of Leon Draisaitl for it.

Well, for starters, I don't think think Montreal has enough assets in their organization to get draisaitl, but let's take a look at the perfect storm of a trade that might make Edmonton think. So, they've got to really meet edmontons needs, so let's start with:
1. Significant defensemen, so mete or Weber, if it's Weber, eat 3 million because the contract is bad, let's say Weber and eat 3.
2. Cap relief. You're taking lucic.
3. A winger for mcdavid, so drouin.
4. A cheap, solid winger. Who ya got?
5. A significant future, so the Montreal first works.

So draisaitl, lucic, and a 3rd for drouin, Weber (3 million retained), some solid inexpensive winger, and a first.

Habs probably don't want to do that right?

I don’t think I have seen a trade on this site between MTL and Edmonton that actually works. The pieces Montreal has to move are ones Edmonton can’t afford to pay, also aren’t valuable enough for Edmonton to want and would need cap a dump in order to work.

I also don’t think Draistle is the answer to Montreal’s problems. At least not a good enough answer to solve all of them. He would be a good piece but wouldn’t put them into the playoffs next year, most likely doesn’t even move them out of the bottom 10. So then you have to wonder what he is worth in another deep draft, personally, I’d say he is worth a 6-10 pick, plus the other pieces. If that ends up being a top 5 pick though, it doesn’t look at good. Especially in this years draft where there is some elite centers in that top 5, which I don’t know if anyone knows this, Montreal needs.

This deal would likely have to be at the draft, with the right top 10 pick, Pacioretty resigned and Edmonton not as worried about the cap. All very unlikely things to have.

And to add to that, MTL isn't doing it either because trading away your lottery chance at Hugues (which, let's face it, will be high this upcoming season!) is a huge mistake. An NHL chief of scouting recently said that he thinks no teams should trade their first round pick this season since the draft is so deep. I think teams without real playoffs aspirations or even bubble teams might hold on to their '19 1st picks. And MTL needs to developp though the draft so they're not trading their '19 first round pick who'll surely be a top 5 pick overall. That render the point moot.

I'll do Draisaitl + Lucic (contract) for Pacioretty(extension) + Lekhonen + Lernout + one D prospect (Rielly, Valiev, Fleury, Brook) + Shaw (possibility to score 20goals if he plays with RNH or Mcdavid, like he do with Toews) + 2 x 2nd round
