for ottawa. hagelin is a cap dump in his last year, maatta is not a top pairing defenseman, sprong has proven nothing ant it will be a late 1st.

stone is a great 2 way player and the 2nd rounder will be high

That deal doesn't get you Stone on his own. Adding Batherson and a 2nd is just insulting

I think this is pretty close to fair. I would take out Batherson, though, and switch the OTT 2nd in 2020 for a 3rd in 2019.

PIT gets M.Stone + OTT 2019 3rd round pick
OTT get s D.Sprong + O.Maata+ C.Hagelin + PIT 2019 1st round pick + PIT 2020 3rd round pick

Why take on 1 year of stone for over 7 million, give up a top 4 D that’s signed toan extremely friendly cap hit long term, a great shot with an extremely friendly cap hit in Sprong and a 1st and 3rd? That’s insane

In your opinion, that is. Neither is better than the other.

Stone's an amazing player, but He's heading to UFA that's for sure, which diminish his value a little bit. And you are definitely undervaluing Maata. He's a top4 d-man on any team in the league, can eat big minutes against top player, is a very good skater, is just 24 years old with 5 NHL season under his belt (and 68 playoffs GP already), his health problems seems to be over now, he's sign for 4 more years at a very reasonable contract, his advanced stats are better than average...He'd be a very nice get for OTT.

Plus you also undervalue what D.Sprong can bring to the table. He's young and can scores tons of goals. He'll have a great season this year, just watch him. The upside is definitely there.

I think, the way I set it up in my first comment, is a very fair trade for both sides and if you're a Sens fan, you shouldn't hate the deal so much because yoy might come up ahead in less than two years time.

1st Stone might be entering UFA year but Pens don't do a trade like this for a rental.

2nd if Maata is that good then why is he just a throw in on a rental trade? You can't have it both ways. If he's that good then he should either be the only thing going back or at the very least the main focus.

3rd sure Sprong can be the next Ovechkin but as of now he's a prospect that can't even crack the NHL. He's got prove what he can do before you can slap a label on him other then a prospect. (Yes saying he's a goal scorer is giving him a label).

You either greatly overvalue Stone or know nothing about any other team’s players.

I think I just value Maata a lot less than other people. I don't think he's very good.

So what you’re saying is that no prospect ever has value? Then why do teams trade prospects to rebuilders for good proven players all the time? The whole “Sprong has no value because he is a prospect that hasn’t cracked the nhl yet is just absurd. He hasn’t cracked the nhl yet because the pens have insane RW depth. He makes the nhl last year on most nhl teams. That’s also why this trade is just bad. We are trading a RW for a way more expensive RW that wouldn’t play in our top 6 and throwing in a top 4 young dman with a great contract, Hags, and a couple picks.

Not the point of my post at all but not surprising that's how you took it.

The trade is a top winger that is elite defensively for
Sprong- a 1 dimensional player that can score occasionally but that's it.
Maata- top 6 D that I've seen traded by so many different Pens fans it's not funny anymore...
Hags- a huge cap dump.
A late (24-29) 1st round pick
And a 3rd for next year.

The fact that you not only spelled Maatta’s name wrong, but serious undervalue there. He is a top 4 defenseman signed long term to an extremely friendly deal with potential to be better. Who cares if he is the whipping boy of the idiot pens fans, but don’t act like he is practically a bum just cause he is always getting traded. Cause EK65 is constantly getting traded too.
Sprong is a top prospect with potential. Why wouldn’t a rebuilder want him to take a chance and build him up?
Stone is an expensive rental. They aren’t going to get what this person suggested. Sprong, a 1st, and maybe a mid to late round pick is what they’d get at best because it’s clear he is going after the money when he hits free agency

Autocorrect misspelled his name. I follow the Pens, I know who Maatta is. I don't like appointing positions to players cause he could be a top 4 somewhere but a top 6 somewhere else or top 2 another place. It's more where he has potential of playing with.

I didn't say Sens wouldn't want to take a flyer on Sprong I said he's a 1 dimensional player as of now. Doesn't mean Sprong can't develop into something. Look at Kapanen. He was 1 dimensional got sent back to the Marlies and now is a great 2 way player.

I don't think Stone is going for money I think he just wanted out of Ottawa
