Things get tight

Created by: TotheNorth
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 21, 2018
Published: Aug. 21, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Can't afford any major additions. Need some youth on ELCs to come in: Niku-Samberg-Vesalainen-Appleton. Roslovic will be the #2C between Laine and Ehlers and be better then a lot of opponents #1 lines. The D-core despite the worry of not being able to re-sign Trouba gets it done and locks him down eventually conceeding to pay him the 7.5M he wants and give him PP time now that Myers is gone.
The Cap space available needs to stay because of the Bonuses for Vesalainen, Niku, and Samberg etc.

Wheeler takes a slight discount, at probably 1 to many years for the Jets but since they're so close to winning a cup, and Wheeler likes the team and management he takes slightly less $ and probably 1-2 years less term to stay with the organization and chase a cup.

Keep Myers at 5Mill and trade Trouba for assets....I can see Myers taking a discount if it's for 6 or so years

I really doubt Laine takes less than Eichel. Big cap jump, more G production. I bet he waits for AM34 to sign his 12M AAV deal, and then splits the diff at 10.75-11.

Matthews and Eichel are franchise centers. Laine is a fine player, but our franchise player is scheifele who is being paid about half of what he is worth. Eichel and Matthews are also fine defensive players, laine is not. I am not saying that laine will come cheap or that the Matthews and Eichel contract are irrelevant, but laine will not come at over 10 million when you consider that ovie and kucherov are payed under 10 million (both great player who recently signed new contracts) and are much better defensively than laine. The truth is that wingers are not paid over 10 million per. I am tired of people saying that laine will get over 10 million. 9.5x8 is fine value and maybe even 9.75 per but not more unless laine hits like 60 goals this season which is something that will never happen in today’s NHL

You do realize that with your suggestion, Myers becomes our top pairing RHD once buff retires (unless the Trouba return brings in a young guy or high pick that will become a top pairing defensemen). I mean Myers is good, but not top pairing material.

That's the point...Trouba will bring in a top D prospect and or pick...or both...he will have to....and he should

1 year of Trouba will NOT bring in a top RHD prospect. Any team that has one of those, isn't trading it for anything unless they need a #1C prospect. I wanted WPG to trade EDM for their #10 pick this year because I was certain a top pair RHD prospect would be available at that spot this year and low and behold there were a couple. But now that the teams have those prospects, they're not trading them for anything!

Boquist, Bouchard and Dobson in three years should be good.....If the Jets could get a pick and draft someone like them, in three years he should be good enough to be a top 4.
