I don’t see it getting done with Honka, but maybe an additional 3rd if it’s Honka instead, the rest staying the same.

They already declined and why would they move Hanzal when it's Spezza they want to shed?

What is the point of having to pay to move Ryan's contract??? It's not like Ottawa is a contender and needs the cap space. They've got plenty of cap, and I don't see them attracting and big name free agents next summer anyways. Just keep Ryan, move him in 2 years if you really need to, when its easier and the team is actually good. Is Ottawa really in that bad of a financial situation? Can they not afford to pay him?

Jim Nill already said no to moving Heiskanen for Karlsson. So Karlsson to Dallas isn't happening.

Who cares about the pieces for Dallas. WHY in anyone's right mind would they take 2 cap dumps (RYAN being enormous to buy out) players and give up Virtanen. That's a big no go.

Ottawa desperately wants to get rid of Ryan’s contract. They said up front last year at the deadline that nobody was getting Karlsson unless they took Ryan. I don’t know if it’s specifically finances or just the owner being a douche but they’re a cap floor team.
Ryan can be a useful player, as can Hanzal if healthy. It seems like Virtanen doesn’t fit in their plans and VAN has said any player that would be part of a direct Karlsson trade is untouchable. Acquiring as many 1sts in the next 2-3 years for anybody who won’t be on the team at that time is advantageous for VAN.

Spezza won’t move his NMC to go back to Ottawa, and is a UFA at years end anyway so they’d get that $7.5 towards re-signing the two big contracts anyway.

I'm not saying Spezza goes back to Ottawa, I'm saying they want to shed his contract.
If Dallas flops this year (they won't!!) they'll eat 50% of his contract and send him to a contender as a third line center.
Like.. Jets need a third line center..
