Trading for Karlsson

Created by: Willian_Cardoso
Team: 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 29, 2018
Published: Aug. 31, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jets need to improve their D so badly. And Karlsson would be a huge add to Winnipeg be considered one of the greatest contenders.

Of course the price would be high and probably lose a kid like Conner would be necessary. But Jets have a great group of young forwards and can afford to lose him and a good prospect like Appleton to get Karlsson. Myers would be used to Ottawa make another trade with another contender to get some more assets.

Besides, Jets is a team that can have a chance to re-sign him, cause they probably will trade Trouba after next season. So, it surely worths all the sacrifice to get Karlsson.

Finally, if Nash opts to stay playing, he would be a very good add to their roster as a short term answer.

I cheer for Ottawa but I'm first and foremost a HOCKEY FAN, so while it hurts to say this, that's probably too much return for ONE YEAR of Karlsson. You can take out the 2021 1st rounder and EVEN THEN Winnipeg should require him to extend in order hand over the rest of that offer.

There’s 5 jets I wouldn’t trade and Connor would be one of them, jets have enough skill I would like them to pick up a Wilson and Mcnabb types to give them the extra push when push gets to shove in the playoffs. Scheifele was getting mugged need a fellow or two wanting to make a name for themselves and even the score. I would also hate trading the picks and controlled talent for the gamble of Karlsson for one season possibly

Trouba will probably be traded. He wants to leave and he make that clear to everyone. That's why he didn't want to sign a long-term deal with Jets. So, get Karlsson would make a lot of sense to Winnipeg.

I obviously agree that I overpaid for him. But first: there'll be a market war to get him. So any team which wants to get him will have to overpay. Second: Karlsson is a top 3 d-man in NHL. Offensively, he's the best. And third and not less important: Jets will probably have to trade Trouba, cause he don't want to sign long-term deal with them at all. So, Karlsson would be a perfect acquisition to replace Trouba, cause Jets would have a chance to sign him for a long-term deal. And even if he won't to, he could help Winnipeg to win the cup next season. This is why I think he worths the overpayment.

Connor has a great upside indeed. But Winnipeg have a great group of forwards in his roster and their best prospect are forwards either. So, lose him wouldn't hurt them that much. Besides, Karlsson has the whole package in his skills. I think Jets would have a better chance to sign him a long-term deal getting him before he becomes a FA. He could and should trade Trouba after the end of next season to make that possible. So, I think he worths the gamble. Even if leaves after the next season, cause with Karlsson, Jets would become even better than last season and their chances to win their first cup would be higher.

Maybe the 2021 1st is too much. I'm not sure about it yet. But he surely worths the offer without that pick. It's a no-brainer for all the reasons that I've been saying...

Yep i think Trouba wants to come here to Florida to be closer to his fiancee. Or possibly go home to Detroit. Only he know's which one.

Whatever reason it is, the fact is Trouba wants to leave and probably will. So, get Karlsson and try to re-sign him would make a lot of sense to Winnipeg.
