Colorado still has defensive issues, and Ottawa still has turmoil in the locker room and uncertainty with their big 3 UFAs, but...

Red Wings and Montreal will give them definite run for their money for the participation trophy.
It all comes down to if Colorado stays healthy, and whether Ottawa signs their big 3 UFAs or trades them away.

Detroit is pretty much locked into their roster due to cap constraints, and Patches has already taken the Panarin stand and said he won't negotiate after start of season, pressuring management to trade him early.
This will help their cause for the Hughes lottery.

Barrie is better then Klefbom but by putting in Soderburg and his bad contract that deal is way too one sided for the Avs. Klefbom and a second would be fair.

honestly I don't see Colorado falling to the 1st/2nd worst team in the league. The team has crazy offensive power. Sure the defence isn't the best but that's something a simple trade can fix. Add somebody like Gardiner or Muzzin (2 guys I think their respective teams are looking to trade) and the defence suddenly becomes much better looking. I don't see any need for the Barrie trade honestly, hes a better D-Man than Klefbom..

Ugh What? Avs do not have Defensive issues, their D core is a mix of high end talent, realiable guys, and young potential. I dont think you really understand how good Sam Girard is and how solid Zadorov are. They might not be sexy to you but htey are solid solid young players, to go along with a work horse in Johnson and one of the top point producing offesnive Dmen in the league in Barrie. When Cole is your 5th Dman and Barberio/Nemeth are your 6th/7th....thats a solid NHL D core

There D core is strong to be honest. What they have on the roster currently and will be adding Makar and timmins throughout the season. That D core is super fun with Johnson, Zads, Barrie, Girard, Cole...especially when you add those Kids

I agree, Makar and Timmins are going to be stars in the league. I just think right now, until they are ready, adding a guy wont hurt. I love Colorado and I think they are going to do really good. I also think its hilarious that theyre gonna get a top 5 pick with Ottawas 1st

I apologize for not elaborating...and i really like Cole, i wish CBJ had signed/kept him.
Your top defender, Johnson, has been injured quite a bit the last 4 years, with games played since 2015 of 47, 73, 46, & 62 respectively.
Barrie is very good offensively, but i think he has some inconsistency defensively in his own zone.
Goaltending is questionable with Varlamov. Getting Grubauer is the best think you could have done, as it is low risk signing with potentially high reward if he plays like he has shown capable of.
I by no means think Colorado will finish last or 2nd to last.
They will be borderline playoff team, and may make the playoffs.
They have improved considerably from 2016-17 when they were last in NHL and had 278 GA.

My post intended to point out that Detroit and Montreal will more than likely finish lower than Colorado and Ottawa (if they keep their UFAs).

I cant wait to see how Ottawa does, have no idea how they will be. It should be at the very least a Top 10 pick, but Top 5 is the smart money

Top 15 is the smart money. If they could get good goaltending and not trade anybody by the deadline, I could definitely see them just missing the playoffs

You wont be a playoff bubble team which would be 10-15 range. Sens wont be a 88 point range team. Face it my friend they are going to be in a world of hurt. The Sens are a boring and simpley coach team wiht a handful of good players wiht 3/4 of a disaster of a Dcore and terrible depth and goaltending.

Pending UFAs staying or not, thats a bad roster

Karlsson wasn't healthy last year. If he stays and healthy, this guy can carry this time by himself to at least 70-80pts. Ottawa has only drafted top 10 twice in the last 10 years

you have players on the roster that dont want to be there, you have the same coach sayign the same message, coaching the same way that he has and has never shown to stray from his system in his multiple years of HC, you have a goalie who doesnt want to play there asking for a trade coming off a sub .900 season.

Its not a good team my man, you play in a division of legit log jam of cup contenders and playoff lock teams. THe sens will get eat up within their own division all season long.

If these guys are still here, they're playing for a contract lol. I expect Karlsson to get 80+ pts, Stone 70+ Duchene close to 70 and Dzingel 50

Colorado still has defensive issues?? It's becoming a really good top 4 !! Still underrated But Girard-Johnson and Zadorov - Barrie... this is really good...
