TBH I dont care if its a "bridge price", its a number we can afford for next season and if he ends up scoring 80 pts this season its fair, and if not who cares. I just want all this media speculation to end and get on with the fun part of hockey

To postpone it for 3 years when we may need to gather up 10m for him? See Nikita kucherov contract for details. Signing nylander for under 7m for somewhere around 6yrs is the focus. If we bridge him for 3 years it will be for 5m tops. At your rate just to keep is pay the same after the bridge will cost us over 7.5m then add a raise for what will most likely be improved performance. Now we are in trouble.

True but alot can change. First of all seattle will add alot to the salary cap and he will still be under control so we could trade him later but were not better off now if he gets traded because of a contract dispute or next year when we want to add a solid defender but can't afford it.

For every dollar the cap goes up 8cents will go to nylander’s next contract at they pay you gave him. So a rising cap does not help us to fit nylander. At 5m this would be more manageable and so would his raise. The best option is to sign nylander for as close to 6m as we can’t get him to agree to over 6 years. If he wants 7m it will be for 7or8 years. We can still afford that.

Oh me too, but I’m with dubas... 6.5 or less over 6 years. Holding out hurts him more than the leafs.

I agree with you. A bridge will from one to four years. So what if the Leafs want a long term....maybe Nylander doesn't want the Leafs are offering. Sure 6.67m a year might be a little high but he's under Leafs control for another two years after the contract you proposed if over.
I think many fans (Leafs fans) are being selfish is they think they can demand that Nylander signs long term.
