We need a second puck moving defenceman and Dermott is just not there yet. Any suggestion that doesn't involve trading away assets?

Key word there is "could" bro. GMs's aren't stupid. Getting nylander now is better than "could be Jack Hughes"

Just do the bridge deal and pay him later
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>For every dollar the cap goes up 8cents will go to nylander’s next contract at they pay you gave him. So a rising cap does not help us to fit nylander. At 5m this would be more manageable and so would his raise. The best option is to sign nylander for as close to 6m as we can’t get him to agree to over 6 years. If he wants 7m it will be for 7or8 years. We can still afford that.</div></div>
Those are good points but like i said I really just want to wrap this up and have him signed and end all the specuation

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>To postpone it for 3 years when we may need to gather up 10m for him? See Nikita kucherov contract for details. Signing nylander for under 7m for somewhere around 6yrs is the focus. If we bridge him for 3 years it will be for 5m tops. At your rate just to keep is pay the same after the bridge will cost us over 7.5m then add a raise for what will most likely be improved performance. Now we are in trouble.</div></div>
True but alot can change. First of all seattle will add alot to the salary cap and he will still be under control so we could trade him later but were not better off now if he gets traded because of a contract dispute or next year when we want to add a solid defender but can't afford it.

TBH I dont care if its a "bridge price", its a number we can afford for next season and if he ends up scoring 80 pts this season its fair, and if not who cares. I just want all this media speculation to end and get on with the fun part of hockey

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>don't know. how this solves the cap at all. karlsson and Matthews make about the same starting next year. leafs don't a cap issue this year or even next year. the issue is playing value for those three players</div></div>
It is kind of helping the cap by managing the cap by balancing the forwards and defense. Instead of having a stacked offence with no defense now there's a good mixture of both.

Yeah but Panarin is a free agent next year and Nylander is a RFA now so the trade would have to be now or during the season
