This would do nothing but help the Leafs. It's fair, but I hate the idea of letting the Leafs re-tool with a high pick that is on an entry level deal. I'd rather see a trade involving Alzner or Shaw - make them take some $

Leafs are matching that offer over a 1st a second and a third, you would have to raise the offer and there fore raise the compensation to get this done probably max number at the 2 firsts 1 second 1 third level and then there’s a possibility, but u also question the amount of picks and cap given up for one player

I agree that the leafs would probably match the offer. But it makes there budget that much tighter next year to sign Matthews & Marner,

Nice idea but probably need 8.2 to get it done and if they feel he’s going to be a bargain by year 3 why not

Might have to put the max number at the lower compensation and see what happens, interesting idea the 8.1 and change number

I think you're right, that would really make the Leafs have a difficult decision. The other thing that might happen, is that Willy doesn't sign the offer sheet, but he tells the Leafs, I'll sign the Montreal offer sheet, but I'll sign with the Leafs for 7.25 X 5.

Yes that gets him into free agency i wonder if leafs would try to add a couple bucks and buy some free agency years at 8.1 and change and 8 years or something like that interesting times ahead I hope for the leafs sake dermott holl and lilgren turn into cheap beasts on the blueline

In all likelihood, the contract negotiations are in the ball park of 7 mill and the term being discussed is around 6-8 years. So this offer sheet wouldn't do anything to entice Nylander to jump ship. The only way an offer sheet would work is if Nylander's camp wants 8.5 and TO offers him 5 mill and neither side budges, then you could see an offer sheet. However, in that case, the player will want above market value which now means you'd be talking 7 years at 8+ just to get him interested in jumping ship, otherwise they would just negotiate with TO and try to get the number closer to 7.5 and get the 8 years.

Offer sheets don't make sense when you are talking about star level players.

With that being said, Johnsson or Kapanen could be targets for an offer sheet. Let's say Kapanen impresses and scores 20+ goals and 40+ points, he'll likely be looking for a contract in excess of Hyman's. Next season the big deals will go to Marner and Matthews, and that could squeeze Johnsson and Kapanen. So a team could offer sheet one of them for 3+ million on a 3-4 year deal and the Leafs will have to let them go. They can't afford to overspend on the depth guys regardless of how good they played in the season.

You're right about Dermot, Liljegren, plus Borgman, Ozhiganov, Rosen.....Leafs are hoping these guys are NHL good or else a high priced forward will have to traded for cap purposes. I'm optimistic on some of those guys then in few years Sandin, Durzi, Rasenan might be NHLers too.
