You can improve the weak spot the team has in a much more cost effective way, both for now and the future. Target Tanev, (a player who likely will be available at the deadline) and not mortgage the future. Plus Anahiem still see themselves as contenders, why would they axe their defense for a small increase in depth up front?

If you watched the Ducks shock the all-but-anointed Sharks at home last night, you know why Anaheim won't trade Manson unless it's for someone who can replace him on the roster alphabetically without requiring any change. And I don't mean Patrick Marleau.

If Colorado is out of it by the trade deadline, Varlamov is going to Carolina. We don't need him. Nemeth for a second is a nice thought, though, if the need arises.

Presumably, Kunitz signed a contract with an NMC because he doesn't want to go anywhere else but Chicago.
