Kings 19-20 Cap Hell

Created by: DDoverChucky
Team: 2019-20 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 9, 2018
Published: Oct. 9, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Kings will be in a funny cap situation next year. Doughty's new deal will kick in adding 4m to an already tight cap. Before signing Iafallo and Kempe the Kings will only have 2,07m in cap space. A bigger contract needs to be moved to sign them...

To be honest the decision to move Toffoli wouldn’t be realistic, in reality I think it would make more sense to trade/buyout Kyle Clifford and/or Trevor Lewis because their cap hits are too high for the type of players they are and you have JAD, Wagner and Vilardi all basically NHL ready but if you had to trade either Pearson or Toffoli I would think more Pearson because Toffoli is a much more skilled player as well as had 30 goal seasons and Pearson hasn’t.

Won’t do... after you replace them you only save about 1.9m. I would move Pearson though. Think Pearson and Lewis would leave you enough wiggle room.

Everyone really needs to come to terms with the fact that this is the last year Martinez or Muzzin will be Kings. One of them has to go for cap reasons.
And Lewis and Clifford may both be gone this time next year also. Depends how the kids progress.
Kings really should have just kept Gaborik. He was always good to give you about half if not more of his cap space back because of injury.

I would think moving Carter would be an ideal move for us. It would clear up that just over 5m in cap whilst also giving Kempe a permanent promotion to 2C, which we got a taste of how good he is with Pearson and Toff last season.

I've just done a post that shows that even if the cap goes up to $82.5M, somebody has to go and Forbort or Lewis plus Clifford or Amadio doesn't do it. But Pearson (or Carter, of course) does.

Why would the Kings trade 2 of their best 3 defensemen? Nobody has to come to terms with it because it'll never happen. Do you know what this team would look like with out Martinez and Muzzin? The day the Kings trade them is the day Kings go into a rebuild.

Jaret Andrerson-Dolan is a forward not a defenseman.

It's not going to happen. Rumors started 2 years ago, never happened. 1 year ago, never happened. This offseason, never happened. It's all people speculating because of the cap situation the Kings are in. Kings have always been tight against the cap. Same with every other good team. Lewis, Pearson, Thompson, and Clifford will go before Muzzin and Martinez. We have so much young good talent in the forward position. We have to make room for them. We don't have as many good and promising NHL ready defensemen. Did you ever think about that? You don't trade guys like Muzzin and/or Martinez without somebody capable of coming up and taking the spot...
