Description

Leafs gain more than 2M in cap space for three seasons. Defence setup for future Gardiner departure via free agency. (Liljegren should be ready then). There's also option to sign Rick Nash for 1 season and to trade Ennis to highest bidder.

What the actual F*ck is happening with that NYR trade?? Or the PIT trade for that matter? PIT laughs and hangs up on that one and TOR laughs hysterically and hangs up without saying a word.

Value is a bit off

I did suspect the value is a bit off...
NYR are rebuilding so they'd want to swap older players for younger ones. Zaitsev makes slightly more than Smith, so if NYR retain half of Smith's salary then the Leafs would save like 2.3M for three seasons.

PIT gains a 1M in cap space this season, else it's a wash. The whole point of this trade is getting Oleksiak for Hyman.

Last weak Babcock was quoted saying the team needs more guys like Zach Hyman. So I don't see them trading him, or adding a couple old, fast, small wings.
