I think you missed the fact that Beaudin is included in this deal, first round LHD from last year. Shaw also has negative value with that contract. Not saying Montreal has any interest in moving Drouin because they probably don't, but the value is not just Saad for Drouin.

drouin has the capability to be a 70 point winger. beaudin is great, but not at the expense of drouin. he staying in mtl. his contract is lit too

Shaw is still a serviceable player and CHI fans know this. Sure he’s 900k overpaid, but to say he has negative value is false. Beaudin would be a great addition but he’s not the difference between Drouin and Saad.

And I’m not saying Drouin is better than Saad by a lot, right now, but Saad has shown at his peek he’s a 25g 25a 50pts kind of guy. Drouin’s potential is far better than that.

Even after taking back Shaw and sending Beaudin? Who MTL was rumored to be interested in at the draft? I guess things are even worse than I thought.

I'd have to say as a Hawks fan that MTL would be losing in this trade. TRUST me when I say I understand it's taking back on overpaid Shaw AND giving BOTH Saad and a promising 1st rounder is a big deal, but It's really hard to trade away Drouin because MB traded away Serg and public opinion says that he lost that trade. I think it's still TBD, but he can't be feeling "rosy" about it. He'll have to definitely WIN a trade that involves Drouin.
