Looks fairly realistic. Two things stand out to me though:

1) I think Heinen, assuming he puts up another 45ish point season, will make about a million more a season.
2) Carlo surprised us his rookie season. Since then though he has been relatively unspectacular, I think his contract will be close to 3 million a season for fewer years.

I love me some McAvoy as much as the next guy, but what do you point at from his camp to make a case for 8 mil?

Gave Carlo 4 years because it will end the same year as Pastas deal and 4 mill because I think he will look better once he takes on a bigger role when Chara retires. And yeah Heinen could get paid more but we will have to see what he does this year.

Right now he is asking for Ekblad money and he should be getting it, but I think this Deal will look really good in a couple of year especially with guys like Doughty going to get so much and we don't know what Karlsson is going to get.

I think McAvoy is great, as I said, but he can't point at anything to make Doughty or Karlsson money. Ekblad had an insane rookie season, but has been mediocre since, and is frankly close to if not overpayed

He might not look like that now but he has very good pot, and the deal may look bad now but he it will look like a steal in the future

But to my point - how does the agent sell that to the club? What leverage does he have in that sense? Hampus Lindholm held out, is a lot better than Ekblad, and is massively underpayed already because he had more or less no real leverage in his RFA contract discussion. If Sweeney plays this even close to correctly you'd be looking at having McAvoy long term for 6-7 mil at most - what Doughty and Karlsson made before this set of contracts, and both of those guys had done more at that point in their careers

True, but if McAvoy holds out the Bruins will be forced to pay him because they need him on there defense or they won't do as good especially if Chara retires.

Players want to play too, they make no money sitting either. And 20 games or whatever one can hold out is pretty negligible if the term is 7 or 8 years. I just think if Charlie and Pasta both are signed for under 7 mil this team will be in a much better spot to move on from Bergy and Marchand in a couple of years time. But yeah I'm a bit scared to find out what anyone looks like without Z, considering how Carlo looked first with and then without him

Ekblad, as mentioned earlier, is really good comp. He is making 7.5 million on a deal he signed two years ago. McAvoy put up similar numbers to Ekblads rookie season and if he can stay healthy long enough will likely put up similar numbers this year. If he can score 35+ points this season while playing high quality minutes he will likely land around 8 million. I wouldnt be surprised if he ended up with a team friendly deal, look what Boston has been able to do with Marchand and Pasta's contracts both very underpaid. However, his fair value will likely be between 7.5 and 8.5 mill if he can duplicate his play from last season.

But Ekblad is overpayed. He was signed a year before his contract expired as well. 7.5 in RFA years are what, 10 mil as UFA? McAvoy is great, but he's no 10 mil defender

I don't believe Ekblad is really THAT overpaid, maybe the first year of his contract but he pretty much getting what he is worth. The thing is you don't see many young defensemen play this well on there rookie contracts. You mentioned Lindholm, but again he signed his contract two years ago and the cap has gone up as will all newly signed contracts. Also McAvoy an Ekblad both put up slightly better numbers in their rooking contracts. I wouldn't be surprise with any contract he signs between 6.5 and 8 mill, but I would suspect it will be more towards 8.

The thing that effects the price of McAvoy's contract the most is the term. If you sign him for 8years then maybe it will be at 8m. If they go for 6years like Pasta then maybe he'll sign for under 7m.

Another thing to consider is that GM Don Sweeney has had 2 high profile resignings: Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak. They both are on what many people feel are team friendly contracts negotiated at a lower/fair amount.

Somehow you're not getting this.
1 year contract for Carlo, he's still an RFA.
2 years, RFA
3 years, RFA
4 years, ufa

Any gm should be fired for even offering a 4 year deal off a three year elc
