If Rask Retires

I may be a bit late to the party but I would say yes he definitely has potential. Being from Maine I have had the opportunity to watch him play pretty regularly,, which might also make me biased. He has great athleticism which carried him his freshman year and over his last two season has made huge strides towards being a positional goalie. He rarely gets beat on first shots and has the athleticism to make the 2nd and 3rd saves. Now I do think they thing he needs to work on is not playing down to the competition, a couple Northeastern and Providence games come to mind this season where he didn't show up, relatively I suppose, for a game Maine should have won.

Maybe not, but he still lays the body (currently 10th among defensemen in total hits) and this team is about both winning and hitting. I can't have 6 Gudas in my lineup because this team would get smoked by Detroit.

Backup goalie I just kind of threw in there, and you're right I definitely overlooked Max Domi.

Even if Toronto did do that, It would make it impossible to call another player of in the case of an injury.

Draft Day Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Terry_AkiSauce</b></div><div>I disagree, a team will have to give up four first round picks to offer Marner that much and while he is an elite player, more and more prospects being drafted are making an impact. Also, a team that is able to offersheet probably isn't currently in the playoffs so the question will be, are they will to risk up to four lottery picks or do they think that Marner is enough to push them over the edge. From what I hear, two teams that may offer sheet are New Jersey and Detroit and as a Leafs fan, I'd be very happy if we received either of those teams' next four first round picks.</div></div>
I would personally be terrified of getting NJ next 4 1st. They would have a forward core of Hall, Marner, Hischer, and Hughes (The first round picks would start untill 2020), if they could manage to add another top 4 d-man and get average goal-tending they should have a pretty good shot to the eastern conference playoffs. At that point you would be banking on them losing Hall in 2020. Just my opinion though.

The Marner Dilemma
Coming from a Bruins fan, I have to agree with you. Watching him play its pretty clear to me he is on-ice leader of this team, he brings his best every night, plays hard every shift, and comes up clutch in the big moments.

ok lets see next year
I like the idea of the Carolina deal but I doubt an up and coming Hurricanes squad would want his cap hit...especially with Aho in line for a monster contract. Maybe NYR or LA, maybe CLB depending on there off-season. If we can convince him to waive for Ottawa they may take him as we don't actually owe him much cash after we pay his signing bonus.

Underrated players on each team
I dont see how Bergeron is considered underrated, widely considered the best active two-way forward. For Boston Krecji is probably the most underrated he would be a #1 center on more than a handful of teams and was technically our #1 center in 2011 when we won the cup.

Ig we decide we need the extra cap space its definitely and idea to get it done. I would however be willing to trade a first, a third, and Backes for Toffoli. with the extra 6M we could make an significant upgrade!

It does but I'm pretty happy with our current team plus a top 6 wing. If we have get toffoli we dont have any major holes to fill in FA and I dont think we will have issues resigning our FA. I just dont think the extra cap space is worth the premium.

I would assume that if Boston is sending a package like this Ottawa's way they are also prepared to make the cap space to re-sign him. The bigger question in my opinion is whether or not he is willing to resign in Boston.

Sorry my mistake, its actually 5M he walks away from. He will get his 3M signing bonus on July 1st then, miss out on 1M salary next season, 1M signing bonus and 3M Salary in 2020-2021. I agree concussion related issues could end up being a real issue with him though.

That would be nice, I have a hard time believing he would leave 8M on the table though. Boston has deep pockets, is it illegal to pay him $8M to be a condition coach? :tearsofjoy

Also besides that minor detail, that package isn't enough to secure Huberdeau.

Maybe if you can find enough bidders in the next 23.5 hours. Not many teams are willing to pay that price and teams aren't going to bid against themselves.
