As you said, Heinen is top 9 - I like him, but I don't see him becoming a top line guy, ever. A late 1st round pick is nice, but likely a guy who wouldn't play in the NHL for 2-3 years (if at all). we're not talking about a lottery pick and a veteran who can't seem to crack get off the 4th line of the Bruins for 3m x 3years? That For one of the best players in the game?
Panarin would cost at least one, probably two (depending on who) of (Donato, Heinen, Bjork, Debrusk) - Plus a 1st rd pick and another legit prospect (studnicka, Frederic, JFK, Vaakananan, Zboril).
If you added Backes to the deal (at this point he has negative value - even at 3m (he has NO points through 12 games and doesn't look good). Also, Backes probably doesn't waive to go to CBJ
The deal you proposed is less than what they gave up for 35 year old Rick Nash who was clearly on the back 9 of his career.
