Life without Matthews

Created by: palhal
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 20, 2018
Published: Nov. 20, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Let's imagine. Arizona makes a 15m offer that the Leafs can't/won't match for Matthews. Could be the Leafs realize it is coming an signs Nylander long term to play centre,
Leafs still have cap to a veteran signing. For all the criticism (I don't know why) Hainsey 10 points, plus 13 so far this year is resigned to help Liljegren and his adjustment

Just using stats with no context doesn't mean they have a good defense. If you say it's not worth investing major assets, I wouldnt argue

I am not sure if we are agreeing or disagreeing, I am so confused.

Is anyone disagreeing with that?

That was one of the stats I used to prove my opinion that Rielly was overrated/not going to win a Norris. Despite his offensive numbers, his possession metrics aren't good. He was actually better last year, but wasn't producing at the same offensive level.

Hainsey is Rielly's problem, if you look at his possession and other metrics when he is with anyone other than Hainsey, he is unreal but Hainsey brings him down. Hainsey is the problem on the Leafs blueline. He just isn't good enough to play the minutes he is asked to play.

Strange that I make the post with Matthews leaving and the conversation switches to Hainsey and the defence. IMO Hainsey has played well, but without Matthews or Nylander the Leaf would have cap to upgrade their defence if needed.

If this ends the season in the top 5 in goals against and Rielly wins the Norris you'd still say there defence sucks. I'd even wager if they also beat Boston 4 straight in the play offs allowing zero goals, you still wouldn't give them credit.

Or I just go off the evidence.

Its not looking that way, Rielly is killing it despite having a pylon for a partner. I doubt a Norris would sway your opinion.

1. When did this turn from me thinking the leafs need d to me hating Reilly?
2. When did Reilly being good mean the leafs don't have need for other defensemen?
3. Why are you so defensive about this?

Me thinks the lady doth protest too much
